Digestive and bowel cramping post op

I had robotic supracervical hyst on Jan 14 and I am home. My biggest issue is the almost constant stomach and bowel cramping and contractions that I have. Doctor said it is due to the anesthesia which stops your bowels and now my "bowels are waking up."

I am so uncomfortable and it cramps even more whenever I eat or drink.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Re: Digestive and bowel cramping post op

I have found that getting as much fiber on a daily basis along with drinking lots of water. My Dr told me to use bulk forming fiber pills. But you can also take stool softners also. For the discomfort you can take X-gas to relieve that. I am still experiencing some discomfort but slowly getting back to normal but will take time. Though if you are still taking the painkillers that can bind you up also. Hope this helps.

Re: Digestive and bowel cramping post op

I had/have the same problems. My surgery was December 3, 2012 and for weeks the pain I felt in my left lower abdomen was at times unbearable. I was convinced they had left something inside me. Fiber does wonders but also I was informed that once the uterus is gone the bowel actually tries to shift over since there's nothing there anymore. I know my pain felt like I was in active labor and still to this day I have some severe pain. Going to a GI doctor next week just to make sure since I had my hyst due to cancer and terrified it may have spread. Good luck!!
