Activity... What's okay???

Ladies.....

I've read the 1-2 & 3-4 week post op suggestions and have been abiding by the guidelines pretty well.

I've also been feeling pretty well overall... and am very thankful for that!!

My questions are:

If I can "comfortably" get out of bed (almost like a sit-up) without "protecting" my abdomen, is it okay to do so at this point?

If I can bend to pick something up from the floor- is that okay.... or do I need to continue to be extra-vigilant in not stretching at all?

I guess I'd really like to know if slightly increasing our activity and movements is okay- as long as it doesn't cause pain.

I'm doing well at not over-doing.... but would like to be a little more active if it's not harmful.

Thanks- as always- for your opinions.

I would be very careful until the dr says it's ok. It will only take one time to pop the stitches or whatever....you won't know which bend or stretch will do it. You only get one chance to heal properly. I know it is hard to stay inactive for so long but please try.

GOOD LUCK

Activity... What's okay???

I had my surgery a day after you. A TAH with an A & P repair, and a removal of a large tumor on my pelvis.

I'm a couch potato person and lazy by nature. I can load and unload the dishwasher, walk a quarter mile, bend over and tie my shoes, I nap a little in the afternoon and mostly hang out on the couch and watch TV and do the computer. Talk on the phone, laugh with my husband, I take two Percoset a day, one at 4 and one at 9. I make my own simple meals and what I don't do is lift anything and I don't push chairs around or put a strain on my abdomen.

I'm 55. I think that if we don't start moving around a little and loosen up our muscles, we'll just let ourselves become like invalids or something. My two cents, and remember, I'm a senior citizen lazy couch potato.
