OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
I've a question for everyone who had rectocele or cystocele issues. Did you have symptoms with your problems or were you asymptomatic?
Also, are there any sisters out there who had either of these but had never given birth?
Thanks!

OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
the only symptom i had was the issue with being able to keep a tampon in place..i just chalked it up to suddenly not knowing how to operate the darn things....hahahaha...
i'm currently dealing with a 2nd prolapse and this time around i'm experiencing some heaviness/pressure in the pelvic floor/perineum area.

OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
I did not have pain, but alot of pressure, I felt like everything was falling out,and trouble with bm's, I wasn't constpated, but nothing would move. I also had bladder stuff too..dribble, dribble dribble.... But it is all better now! I have 3 children and the births did the damage, one breech, one 9 lbs. in a car, one at 37 years old... I do still feel some pressure sometimes, but not like before. Now if I could just stop bleeding! Hope that helps some. Patty

OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
Have you asked your doctor about taking Colace? It helps me with the constipation and now find that I will probably be taking it for life. Before the rectocele repair it was hard to eliminate stool, I had to splint the entire time. Since the repair and the Colace, I'm pretty regular and no dribbling urine. I feel so much better now, I can cough and not have to cross my legs . I did take 12 weeks off from work to heal, cause I don't want to go through another surgery for a while.
Good luck with everything. And as always, consult your doctor and if you don't like him/her find one you do.

OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
I am taking o.t.c. stool softner also. The bleeding(vaginal) is from walking around to much last weekend...I hope. It is better this morning, so I think I just over did it. Patcat I hope the Dr. can help you, I think constipation can aggravate them. I know how frustrating that can be! My mom has had to have rectocele repairs twice and needs another one. Mine is not perfect, but is better. My ob/gyn did the surgery.. all except the bladder sling( another surgeon came in and did that). A proctologist (?) did my mothers. Hope this clarifies the info. From what I hear the rectocele repair alone is a much easier recovery from what we have been through! Good luck, Patty

I had a rectocele and cystocel repair
I had both repaired in addition to a fallen uterus....and lifting the bladder....I have had 4 kids over a span of almost 20 years last one at 39.
I had plenty of symptoms although I was never much aware of what was causing it when it first started happening. First thing was everytime I sneezed, I peed my pants. Mind you this started after baby#2 about 11 years ago. It only continued to worsen with each subsequent pg.
I really didn't notice much about the rectocele (hadn't even heard that word before) until after baby 4. Over the past THREE years, I have dealt with the inability to hold urine (laughing, sneezing, whatever) and not being able to poop right. I felt a bulging in my perineal area, and sometimes the only way I could go would be to insert my thumb and push things back where they needed to go in order to move my bowels.
One day I discovered my cervix. I wear tampons that have no applicator, so I am very familiar with the way my body feels. I was quite surprised at this discovery.
So I called my doc, and we tried kegels (I am terrible at keeping up with any regimen), and a pessary...most miserable thing I did...couldn't find one that fits right.
Also, and this one seems to be unproven or documented...I had extreme ITCHING in my perineal area and rectum. The rectal itching was from an inflamed hemmrrhoid (which is actually a pile, not a hemmrrhoid). Nothing was bringing relief, doc didn't think the itching was related...but voila...1 day post op...and now 10 days....all itching and swelling are GONE....
So those were my symptoms....never thought they would lead me to a surgery...but it did...glad I did it....just ready to return to a normal life again!

You don't know HOW good it feels to know someone else had this issue too (not that i wanted you to feel bad... )...but my doc literally acted as though I 'd lost my mind when telling her my theory!!
Glad to hear we are both feeling better now....to me I could have lived with peeing my pants every 5 min (well, ok...maybe not)...but that itching thang HAD TO GO....

OKay.. fretting about rectocele or cystocele
My first symptoms that sent me to the Gyn was not being able to pee first thing in the morning. I had the urge to go so badly but nothing would come out. In order to pee I would have to push on my lower abdomen and strain like trying to have a BM. I have a lot of pressure, back pain and rectal pain. I never had a problem with constipation until the hysterectomy and prolapse repair. I have never actually splinted because I can't seem to coordinate it all. Six months after the surgery I am still using stool softeners.
