anxiety after surgery
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone is experiencing this since surgery. It seems since surgery about over 5 weeks ago I have been exerience anxiety esp. after the doctor changes my medication. The doc told me to increase my medication of hormones slightly. The anxiety is bad today. I took a bit of xanax and my heart is still pounding away. It seems any little change I have bad anxiety. Is anyone else experiencing anxiety since surgery. I was so much more calm before surgery. Things didn't have as much an effect on me. I wonder if in time it will get better. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks, Kathy

anxiety after surgery
Hi Kathy
I also had my surgery 5 weeks ago, and I have been been experiencing anxiety. Any thing that seems to not be right with me (healthwise) really stresses me out. I had a panic attack on Saturday, got very tight chested and found it difficult to breath. I am fine now, but I think it is going to take some time emotionally to recover from what has happened. I too was not like this before surgery.
People say forget about what has happened, youre fine now, just get on with it and I know it is true but it is easier said than done.
Just hang in there, I think it helps if you can talk to someone that understands what you are going through. I have a nurse that works for my specialist/surgeon that I have been able to call a couple of times and she has been great.
Good luck

anxiety after surgery
(((Humming Bird)))
I'm sorry your having such a difficult struggle with this right now. I want to encourage you not to lose heart. It just takes time to find the right balance again and your body is still adjusting to the shock of surgery. It seems evident that some women are more sensitive to the changes too. You appear to be one of those.
I want to share an article that is found in the hormone articles here on the site. It is a rather technical discussion of how Hormones affect anxiety and depression . I found it to be very helpful in understanding what can cause and also what might help us to find the answers that are needed to this situation. I hope there will be some helpful information for you in this. It might help you to discuss the problems you're having with your dr.
Please hang in there and try not to get too discouraged. I hope you will start to feel better soon. Keep us posted on your progress.
's, Rita

anxiety after surgery
Rita,
Thank you so much for your response. I read the hormone article. That was fantastic. So informative and helpful. It made so much sense. I really apprecaite you sharing that with me. I am extremely sensitive to changes esp. meds. They have a huge effect on me. In the evening my heart pounding slowed some and got some sleep with meds. I took the same amount meds this morning and keeping my fingures crossed that my body is used to it just a bit more and don't have as many side effect. The heart punding is terrible. I felt like someone plugged me in. Anyway this morning I'm okay so far. Thanks so much again for your response.
Hi Foff, I had a panic attack last week. They are the worst. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I know we are not alone and it's a comfort when others share what they are going through. I hope you don't have anymore. Thanks again for sharing.
Kathy
