First shower at home

As the doctor instructed, I covered my incision with saran wrap and sealed it with waterproof tape, but it got wet anyway. I had to pat it dry and blow dry it. Anyone else have this experience?
My Steri-Strips are starting to peel off. I suppose I should let them fall off in their own time, right?

Re: First shower at home

They'll be fine. I didn't have steri strips this time but in the past I was never told to keep them completely dry.

Re: First shower at home

I never had to cover my incision site at all. I just patted it dry after each shower -- in fact, I was told to wash it with soap and water. But, be sure to talk with your doctor.

Re: First shower at home

I had durabond that glued my incision together. I had an allergic reaction the glue that started 10 days post op and I peeled it off. The incisions were healed together by that point. I think you should be safe.

Re: First shower at home

I was showering from day 3 of my hospital stay, as approved by the nurses looking after me. This was with my two wound drains too- so had to do a juggling act My dressing was changed afterwards.

I was told to trim the ends off the steristrips as they lifted up from the skin so they came off gradually.

My incision healed beautifully.

Re: First shower at home

My doctor pulled my glue off at my 2 week post op visit and said I wouldn't have hurt anything had I pulled them off sooner.

Re: First shower at home

I showered at day 3, never covered steri strips. I was also told to allow soap and water to run over, but not to scrub.
I was told all the steri strips would come off on their own in 7-10 days and mslt did. I pulled the others at 12 days. So even daily showers, they stuck on!
Also, i used the blow dryer on no heat after every shower.
Check with your doc, but it should be okay.
Oh, all of my stitches were internal.

Re: First shower at home

I showered the next day, dr. Told me I could. I only had paper tape( allergic to surgical tape) and they washed off. I have no idea if I had stitches or glue, the bottom two look like little scratches and the one in my belly button looks a little bruised but it doesnt hurt. Dr. Said to just leave them alone not to re bandage them.

Re: First shower at home

I showered on day 4, before leaving the hospital once I got my staples out. I have steri strips. I was told to wash the area gently but not to let water "sit" at the inscion.
