Wine?

I had a TAH on 2/29 and was put on bed rest for 4 days for bleeding. I'm currently on.day 3. I really would like to have a glass of wine tonight ( have not had any since before surgery) but I'm worried since it is a blood thinner. Thoughts???

Re: Wine?

I was spotting on my 2 week and I was drinking wine. I don't know how much you are bleeding. I was told if you are bleeding a lot to call the Dr. That's what my Dr told me.

I am sure you are on painkillers. Painkillers and alcohol do not mix. My mother in law is a nurse, and she said I could have a couple of sips of my hubby's but thats it. The strength of ibuprophen they prescribe you mixrd with alcohol could give you internal bleeding. Alcohol with narcotics csn give you liver problems that are irreversible. I say save it for a little later.

Re: Wine?

I got shots of heprin (Blood thinner) right before my surgery and the day after my surgery in the hospital to prevent blood clots. So the wine would not be a big deal as long as you're not on pain killers.

Re: Wine?

I have not taken any pain killers. If I had been I would not drink at all. I didn't know you are taking pain pills.

Re: Wine?

How do you survive without pain killers? If I was not on pain killers I would be drinking lots of wine. But I have pain. And I was told for the first two weeks to take psin meds if I am in pain. I was told to take the ibuprophen for three months no matter what, because it is an anti-inflamatory and inflammation is not your friend.
I dunno...everyone is different, but I like my pain meds.

Re: Wine?

I just had discomfort. I went to my dr and she said I was healing very well and wanted me to do a little more walking and cleaning. But still listen to my body. I thought I would be in a lot of pain for what people told me but I wasn't
