I think insurance may be denying robot assisted hysterectomy

I am scheduled for a total hysterectomy on 5-21. When i talked with my gyn about having this done due to 9cm fibroid and a ovarian cyst, The doctor recommended the robot assisted hysterectomy. but when i look at the order it says laporscopic w/ uterus, so i am thinking maybe the ins co denied that more expensive one ??? I was told by dr robotic is less recovery time, complications etc. which i thought was great as financially have to go back to work soon as possible. don't know as i do have a physically demanding job though!? thanks for any thoughts on this

Re: insurance denying robot assisted hysterectomy

Not sure I have an answer for you, but I am curious as to why it would be denied. My ins. co. didn't have time to deny anything as it was an emergency.

Could it be how it is written for the ins. co.?

Re: insurance denying robot assisted hysterectomy

I would call the doc office and ask them to clarify just to be sure.

Re: insurance denying robot assisted hysterectomy

I have read that some insurances won't pay for the robot. But you can choose to pay for that portion. Does that make sense?

I would call the insurance and see what's up.

Re: insurance denying robot assisted hysterectomy

I had robotic(DiVinci)on the 22nd. The surgical nurse at my gyn. office, explained that most insurance companies don't pay for the robotic, but they(dr.office) write it off (discount it off) if its what the dr. prefers to perform as it was in my case. Which I am happy that I had it done this way. They only charged my insurance for the laparoscopic hysterectomy. Call your doctors office and speaking to the surgical nurse or billing.

Re: I think insurance may be denying robot assisted hysterectomy

I am not sure where you are from but I was scheduled for the davinci for May 8th. Due to some bad press (nationally) the hospitals in my area (THE ADMINISTRATORS NOT DOCTORS) have put a "hold" on this procedure. I wonder if this has anything to do why the change was made for you.
