liquid diet

I am reading the papers I got from the dr. I am getting a cold...yippee! I am sure I will spend the day waiting for them to call me back. Then they will have to ask the dr. what I should do and then I will wait for yet another call. UGH!

ANYWAY~ my papers say a liquid diet the day before surgery. Not a clear just liquid. So I know I have ask this before but what is a liquid diet? I am mostly wondering about ensure and stuff like that. I just feel lost and do not feel like I was given very good info. I was just handed a paper and told to follow it.

My nerves are running mad. Kids go back to school on Thursday and I am ready for it. I need to go buy groceries,clean the house and get ready for Monday to get here.

Hi Rhavensunflower! Last sat. I had the pre-op visit to the dr. and she said that 12 hrs. before surgery I had to be in a clear liquids diet. That means that I can just drink "see through" liquids, like water, tea, apple juice and jello. 5 hours before surgery I can't drink anything, maybe if I'm thirsty I can put a little ice in my mouth.

A liquid diet is anything liquid... cokes, juices, broth, soup without any chunks in it, even jello! I had this diet the day before my surgery too. I bought several different kinds of juices, and jello snack cups in different flavors. Hope this helps!
