Just home

Hi Sisters,
I just got home from the hosp yesterday. My surgery was a TAH and it went way smoother than the doc expected. I had 2 doctors operating on me and it was expected to take 4 hours, but it turned out that one of the doctors was an oncologist ( called in by my doctor for support because he is familiar with the pelvic area. I had no issues with cancer ). The surgery took 1 hour and 40 minutes.
While in the hosp the nurse tried to get me up for a walk the first day, but hanging my feet over the bed made me super nauseated. They tried again the next day, I walked too far, stopped at the bathroom which was too warm, and I passed out. Fortunately the nurse caught me before I fell forward into the door and my iv stand.
They checked the results of my blood test and found that my blood counts were too low. So I ended up getting 3 units of blood, after that I felt better. I was able to walk the next day, but was afraid to go alone.
Then the day before I was to be released my incision suddenly bruised up and my iv needle site turned red within about an hour. They took the iv out, and the bruising they said was ok.
I am home now and feeling much better. The hosp was SOOO boring! I am much happier to be bored at home. I am still sore in the abdomin and my back is sore too, but I am getting around well. DH is taking great care of me.

Hi HistoryToMe
Welcome to post op. I'm glad to hear you made it through ok. I had the same problems with passing out and getting nauseous when I would try to get up. I ended up doing some extra time in the castle because of it too. I was also anemic. I found it cleared up quickly once I was home and really worked at eating iron rich foods and taking a supplement. I found that the Slow Fe time released iron was very gentle to my system and didn't complicate my efforts to regulate my bowels. I hope you find something that works well for you too.
So glad to hear your dh is taking good care of you. Rest now and drink your water. I hope you have a smooth recovery.
's, Rita

I'm glad your surgery went well - and that the doctors were able to help you to feel better while you were in the hospital.

I hope you have an uneventful recovery!

Thank you all for the well wishes. It is great to get this type of support. My recovery so far is uneventful and I am drinking all day long. I am on iron suppliments and stool softeners, but the bowels are working normal, so no problems there. I have lost some weight since the night of the bowel prep (talk about YUCK!), but the weight loss is acceptable. I still don't have much of an appetite, but I eat anyways. I just can't eat as much as normal (tonights dinner was 1/3 of my turkey burger and a few fries). I got the swellly belly thing going on, but that's ok too. It will go away with time.
Miss Birdy welcome home to you too. I hope your recovery is going as well as mine is. Take it easy!
Blessings to all.
