Incision infection?

Hello ladies, I'm new... I just had my TLH april 27th. I have a total of four small incisions, but the two small incisions around the hip area. both are pink. one has scabbed, which is good, i think? the other seems to be cracked open with a pin prick hole. it's closed otherwise inside. oh, and no drainage.

but shouldn't it be closing at the surface?

should I apply any antibiotic to it? bandage them? let them air dry? it's normal???

thanks girls!

Re: Incision infection?

Is the skin around the incision red? I had a badly infected incision and the skin all around it was very red, hot and swollen. I also was running a fever and felt pretty sick. I was put on antibiotics and it eventually opened and I had a lot of drainage. It's healed up nicely now.

If you think there is a chance it is infected I would have a doctor look at it. It may be fine but I wouldn't take any chances or put anything on it until you have it looked at.

Re: Incision infection?

They sound OK from your description. I got a minor incision infection. It was wet, not healed, red, with a little drainage and it hurt (After my BSO). It was superficial enough I had an antibiotic ointment for it (after a culture). It took 4 wks for 2 of the 5 to heal, 2 wks for the others. Just to give you something for comparison.

Re: Incision infection?

It does sound like they are healing. I would be concerned if they are red or feel painful to touch. I would probably call my doctors office on Monday and ask them if they want it covered or to use any cream on it. My doc said to leave them alone but it did get an infection, no redness but it hurt like the dickens, so they looked at it and said it had become infected. Gave me antibiotics which cleared it up. Sending lots of hugs.
