Remove fibroid...Keep uterus??

Hi

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove a fibroid from a uterus but save the uterus? I am having my ovaries out (cysts) next week and I have a fibroid (no symptoms). I was thinking of asking Dr. if that is possible. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks!!

Remove fibroid...Keep uterus??

Hi I seen a show on TV about fibroids on the health channel a few months back and they showed a new procedure that is being done. What they do is cut off the blood supply to the uterous and they will shrink on their own with no" food" to keep them growing. I am not sure if they cut the arteries leading to it or tie them. I do not remember but it looked like a very promising procedure. If the fibroids are not causing you any pain then you could just leave them alone. They usually disappear after menopause. However this may not be the case if you are on estrogen therapy after removal of ovaries. I am not sure what role estrogen plays in that but I am sure if they disapear after menopause the reason is because of lack of estrogens?
I do believe the fibroids can be removed. I am sure there are many sisters out there who know. In my mothers case she had gigantic fibroids and they did go away with menopause. Hang tight I am sure you will get lots of answers to this one.

Fibroid removal

I was having a cyst removed from one of my ovaries about a year ago and they found a rather large fibroid inside my uterus. The GYN removed it with no complications and stated that at that time there was no reason to remove anything else. Hope that helps. Also, I had no additional pain or bleeding due to that, all was done day surgery and I was out and moving (ok slowly moving!) by that afternoon!! Good luck wth everything!

Remove fibroid...Keep uterus??

The new treatment is called uterine fibroid embolization. WebMD has a good article about that procedure http://aolsvc.health.webmd.aol.com/e....50456#tv6672. They can also be removed surgically, without removing the uterus. Here is another article about treatment of uterine fibroids http://aolsvc.health.webmd.aol.com/c...le/1838.50570. Also, as wings said, the other option is to just leave it if you are having no other symptoms. They usually do shrink with the onset of menopause.

myomectomy

The procedure known as a myomectomy is the surgical removal of fibroids but not the uterus. I had one two years ago. It cannot be done under all circumstances so please ask your doctor if you qualify.

Good luck
