Pre-pre Op appointment

I thought I was going for the Pre-Op today - but that's scheduled for Monday. Today was just the doc answering all my questions and an exam. I'm up for a TAH and bladder suspension (Burch procedure). My 14 week size uterus is too big for a LAVH. The good news is that for the bowel prep I'll be taking pills. Aspirin therapy stops today. An epidural will be an option for me and I think that's the anesthesia that I will opt for. They plan to manage my diabetes by doing finger sticks every 2 hours and insulin injections. Also the internal medicine people at the hospital will be following me at the Castle because of my diabetes. I'm following my checklist (though not looking forward to grocery shopping and cleaning). I made up my packing list based on all the great advise I've received on this web site. The doc was real impressed because I am so informed and had great questions. Imagine that.

Pre-pre Op appointment

Good for you Cookie.. an informed patient is a a happy patient. Just remember to take it REALLY easy when you return from the castle. By getting the cleaning and the shopping done ahead of time, you will be ahead of the game when you come home.

Best of luck to you!

Pre-pre Op appointment

Hi Cookie,
I just wanted to drop a line to you because I know how much a diabetic worries before surgery. I promise they will take extra care of you because of the diabetes!

One thing that I thought to let you know ahead of time is that after surgery you can expect your sugar levels to be elevated for some time. I am 10 weeks post op now and they are finally back in range again. I normally do not have to take insulin because I am in good control, however since surgery I have been on insulin due to high readings. Glad to say that I have just about gotten off the insulin again.

My internal doc followed my care after surgery as well due to the diabetes. I felt very comfortable knowing he was there as I have a tremendous trust in him!
