My surgery is schedule for May 3rd. Just curious how many have had this done with a spinal block? I'm so afraid to be put to sleep. I'm sure everything will be fine, but because I'm a control freak this seems to be the scariest part.

I am also scared of being put under - but I've had both and I guess if I had to choose it would be put under. You don't remember anything and you just wake up - usually don't even remember going under. When I had my spinal with my last c-section I got so sick and was vomiting while they were delivering and then I got the shakes so bad then when I was getting feeling back one of my legs stayed numb for quite a while - very frustrating because I felt like I needed to move it but it was like dead weight. I understand your fear and really wish you all the best - Please try to put our mind at ease and know we will all be here so you can let us know how you are doing. Sending hugs!!!

ClairBear,
Thanks so much for listening and your reply. I had a upper GI scope about a month ago and was fine so I'm sure I will be this time to. I'll keep in touch.

I was scared too. When I went to the castle my Dr. suggested the spinal block because I would be so much more comfortable after surgery...it really helps with the pain, so I really wanted to do it. Then I was so excited to find out they were going to put me to sleep first and then do the spinal...so I wouldn't feel a thing. I thought it was the other way around. One minute they were talking to me about it and calming and reassuring me...the next thing I knew I woke up in my recovery room with my hubby and mom standing over me.

I understand your fears because I was there. And so were so many other of us sisters...and we made it thru. You are in our thoughts...let us know how it goes.

I had the spinal, no general anesthesia, and I don't even remember them putting the needle in, because I had IV sedation. It worked great for me.
