BM Question

Hello, had TVH on August 24th. Had first BM the day after surgery, and am thrilled about that. I was wondering if it is normal for blood to appear when having a BM? I know it could be painful, etc., but I was not prepared to have blood at each BM. I am no longer spotting, etc. at this time. I am due for my telephone check-up with the doctor's office in a few days, but was wondering if this was a common symptom after surgery. I am also having very bad lower back pain. Thanks for the ongoing support,

BM Question

While vaginal spotting is to be expected, I don't believe rectal spotting is normal. I would suggest calling your doctor about this right away. Did you have any repairs done besides the hysterctomy that could be an issue?

Hopefully your doctor will have an answer for you right away, but you may need to go in to be checked. Let us know what you find out! s

Lucky YOU!

I had a LAVH the same day you had yours. I have not had a bm yet. I also had a rectocele repair. So....I am on day 7 noww/oa bm...and I have lower back pain, too...I am guessing it is my bowels. I also found out prior to surger that I have a horseshoe kidney and I am more prone to stones...so, it is something to keep in mind...I have had them twice. I just wish I could have a bm. I am taking softners twice a day... I will do anything!!

BM Question

I would call your Dr. right away. Did you strain at all with any BM post surgery? Or have a bad bout with an explosive (sorry) BM? If either of these is the case, you could have an anal fissure. That's where you tear a small piece of tissue just inside the rectum. Usually they are no big deal and can days to weeks to heal, but will heal on their own. Sometimes the Dr. will prescribe a medicated suppository to speed things up. If you haven't had this problem pre-surgery, then my money is on the fissure.

Good luck and keep us posted!

It's possible that you may have a hemerroid. If you strain at all while having a BM, it's possible that you have acquired one of those & it's being irritated with each BM. You should contact your doctor just to make sure there is not something else going on. Better to be cautious and have it turn out to be no big deal.

Good luck!!

BM Question

Kim,
Hello! Yes, I had a rectocele done. I almost had to have my bladder lifted , too...but didn't need to. I live very close to Mayo clinic in Rochester and my husband works for I had my surgery done at an affiliate of Mayo so I had a test done at Mayo to see how bad my bowel was, because they did not want to have to do this surgery/hysterectomy and then have to do another surgery...I guess it wasn't too bad. I just needed a couple of simple stitches that had ripped durring one of my labors with childbirth??..Anyway...that being said..I feel fine, other than the fact, I have not had a bm. I really don't think you need to be scared Dr's deal with this all of the time. I just had not heard of it before..

thanx for getting back to me

l know l should'nt be afraid , the thing is l just had surgery 5 weeks ago and the thoughts of going through it again ticks me off just a bit . l was on google checking it out and they said it is possible this may have happened from my surgery. l don't know l'm just a little confused . l thought after my TAH l would be better . The buldge l have is right in the opening of my vagina when l take a mirror and look l can see it right there . Where if you don't mind me asking was yours ? Did it give you alot of pressure and feeling like you have to go to the bathroom ? KIM .M
