I actually think I might survive

Well, it has been a bit of a tough go, but I think I have turned the corner. My doc told me on discharge that something had happened to a nerve and it would be "tender" for about a month.(I'm sure he said what had happened to it, but I was drugged.) The pain has been pretty much unbearable. Saturday I really wanted to get out of the house(about 11 days post op) so I got dressed and my DH was going to take me to Hallmark. I just walked around the house and cried. We couldn't reach my doc so we went to a corner clinic. The doc gave me darvoset rather than the vicadin. I don't know if it was timing or medication but by Monday I was100% better. I did follow with my doc on Monday and he said that a stitch was around the nerve. He could stop the pain immediately by opening it up again and clipping the stitch. Since I was doing better on Monday, I told him I would take a wait and see approach. I got some questions answered about medications taken together ( ambien and the darvoset...yes) and he said that I will not injure the incision, that it will just hurt till the stitch dissolves. I had another good day today so I am hopeful that the corner has been turned. Anyone else have the problem with the nerve? My fear was that it would be chronic but apparently after the stitch dissolves, the pain is gone. Hope that others struggling with pain can turn the corner soon too.

I bet you had the same surgeon as myself! I had my surgery at Tacoma General on Dec. 13, and I also had a total lap. hyst.

That could possibly be. I guess we are not supposed to name the docs. Did you have it robotic, he is one the few that does it I think? I hope you are doing well.

I'm doing well hyst-wise (actually quite well) - but the day after I came home is when the storm hit, and we lost power for 24 hours, and I came down with a horrible head cold, which has really impacted how I feel. I think once this cold clears up I'll be doing much better.

Yep, I'm sure we had the same surgeon. I hope that you are feeling better with your head cold. That's tough because it's hard to know what to take when you may be still taking pain pills. No power for 24 hrs, I would have gone nuts with this recovery. Thank goodness for DVR and saved programs. We were fortunate and only lost our power for a couple of hours and it was about 9pm so we just went to bed. School was cancelled on Friday so I got a sick day given back, that was nice. I was a little tight on sick days to begin with. Take care. I think we can communicate by email if you'd like.
