Big O after big H?
One of the things I'm most anxious about with my upcoming hysterectomy is that it may interfere with my sex life. I've read that some women have difficulty achieving orgasm after the surgery. Is that the norm? Is it more likely than not that I will be able to have the same sexual function post op? My doctor said that there is no data to suggest that orgasms are affected by the surgery, but some of the stories I've seen here suggest otherwise. I would love to get some reassurance.

Re: Big O after big H?
Mazqueen, I was very worried about this too. I had long, deep, amazing orgams and I really didn't want to lose them. Since my surgery, my desire is the same, sex pretty much feels the same (a little different, but not in a bad way), and I still achieve orgasms. They are however, not as deep and satisfying as they used to be, I really miss feeling my uterus contracting during orgasm, and sometimes they feel shallow and dissatifying. On a good note, DH says it feels just the same for him.
I'm sure you'll find there are just as many outcomes as there are women on this site. Some women say that their orgasm is better post op, because they no longer have heavy bleeding, pain, or fibroids interfering with sex. Those weren't issues for me, so maybe that's why I'm finding adapting a little difficult.
There are no guarantees, unfortunately. We have to cross our fingers, close our eyes and make the plunge. I'm wishing you the best.

Thank you for replying so quickly, sugarandspice! Like you, I am not having pain with sex, which is probably why I'm anxious about it.
Can I ask another question? What is "DH?" I've seen that on several posts and I'm assuming it doesn't mean "designated hitter." It's obvious that it's a reference to a husband or partner, but I can't figure it out! (I'm new here)

Re: Big O after big H?
First of all, good luck with your surgery. I haven't had any trouble with sex or orgasams. Mine are actually better than before and they last longer. Once hubby and I got over the nervousness of resuming sex, it was amazing. I joked with him afterwards and said I should have had the surgery years ago! Try not to worry about it too much and remember more people usually post the negatives other than the positives. Good luck!

Re: Big O after big H?
Hi Mazqueen, DH means dear husband. You'll find that the strenghth of orgasms vary from woman to woman. Yes some women a decrease in sexual drive and orgasms, a whole lot experience and increase in sexual drive and orgasms.
I can say for me after my surgery, I was in a constant state of arousal and I had no problem achieving an orgasm and for me they've been more intense than before surgery.
Try not to let the negative overpower the positive and when it's time try and relax and let it do what it do.
Best wishes on your surgery

Re: Big O after big H?
I was terrified pre op about the whole sex and orgasm thing. It was probably my biggest cause of anxiety. I am happy to post that my sex drive is as good as ever and my orgasms are fantastic. My DH and I notice no differences with sex post op!! I hope this helps to ease your mind.
