4 days post hysterectomy: Washing after TLH

I had my TLH 4 days ago and till now I've just be having a freshen up wash. I wasn't told at what point I can shower or take a bath, any advice?

You can take a shower. No baths.

I was told I could shower the next day. I purchased a wash especially made for our private parts. Also make sure your would is dry afterwards. Some use a blow dryer on cool setting.

I had abdominal surgery, so I had a 7" incision down my belly closed by staples. When I was released from the hospital 3 days after surgery, I was told that when showering, *don't* soap the incision directly. Soap the area just *above* it and let the soapy water run down over it. *Pat* (don't rub) dry when you get out of the shower.

13 days after surgery, I exchanged the staples for steri-strips. At that point I was told to cover the steri-strips with plastic wrap when showering.

So you can definitely shower, but the details depend on how your incisions are closed. Baths are *out* until specifically approved by your doctor.
