can't seem to go to bed at night

Hi Ladies!

Since the hysterectomy I can't seem to sleep at night but not because I wake up or such - it is rather that I simply don't go to bed. I just stay up until half the night is over and then I go for some hours. I still wake up in the morning like I have had my sleep but look or feel not too fresh.

It is very annoying expecially when I have plans for the morning. I am not rested and still won't even nap in the afternoon. It is so strange for me as I always could sleep and also did.
Do you have any tips or tricks? Can you imagine a reason for behaving like this?

Love - Elena
(...it is now 1:22 at night here in Germany, which is still too soon for bed...)

Sleep cycles are often...good or bad...dictated by hormones. While I see you kept one ovary(as did I thankfully) your body is still rather "messed up" this early on. It may simply take some time. If it persists and is really bothersome, you might check with your doctor and see if they have something natural that might help your body get back in sync.
That is indeed annoying and I hope it gets better for you soon!

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

I have the same problem with insomnia after surgery and my ovaries were not producing their hormones. The doc gave me a low dose of sleeping pills which did the job. I was staying up until 5am and not being able to sleep. Maybe you should contact your Dr and ask him for some advice on what to take for sleeping while your ovaries wake up. Hope this helps.

I have issues too. I find myself staying up until 1 even though I'm tired. I also am usually tired during the day but just lay and watch tv or play on my phone instead of sleeping. I wish I was sleeping better. My plan was to sleep as much as possible.

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

Hi, I had the same problem. I decided that it might be the pain meds and it did make it easier to sleep once I stopped them. Also, I found that not sleeping in my normal position also caused me issues when I was ready to sleep because I could not get comfortable. Each day it got a little easier to fall asleep and then my internal alarm clock got back on track after about 3 or 4 weeks. I hope you are able to get back to normal it will help everything else heal as well.

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

The shock of surgery to your system and also hormonal issues will both influence post-op sleep patterns. An awful lot of ladies here experience crazy insomnia for a few months. I would sleep from maybe 11pm-2am and spend the rest of the wee-hours wide awake. Good news is that it does get better, it just takes time and things will improve as your hormones settle and your body gets used to the new status-quo.

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

I too am having issues with sleep. I'm definitely putting that topic on my list for my next check up.

I can't sleep in my favored position yet and my brain won't stop thinking up things to keep me awake so that might be part of my problem.

I do hope you get some relief and if you do please share how!

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

I am the same and now seem to have restless leg syndrome at night which I did not have before the surgery. I can be exhausted, but can't fall asleep or wake up constantly because my legs are aching. I am hoping it is just because of the surgery and the hormone therapy. Starting to get frustrated!

Re: can't seem to go to bed at night

The elusive sleep.... Yep me to..... still...... almost 9 weeks. I also have restless leg syndrome since surgery. I end up napping during the day. I go back to work Monday so no daytime naps will hopefully get my sleep pattern back.
