Double question for UK Ladies

Hi Sisters, just wondering I have been told by the Hopsital than I am now being admitted at 10am the day before? is this normal in the UK as ladies I know who have had there hyst were admitted the same day.

Also I have been told to try to stop smoking My GP has given me Zyban but he is not sure if I can be on it during the opp (typical) and I will not see my surgeon until the day itself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Double question for UK Ladies

Hello
In my experience I and the others on the UK site went in on day of op.
As an adult the hospitals tend to trust you to not eat prior to the op , my op was 9.30 am but if it had been at 6am I still would have opted to arrive at the earliest an hour before.
I do not smoke but as an ex smoker I can only say I would be weary of any drugs as you will have a lot after the op. Go on the patches 2/3 days before and take the opportunity to give up. I am 8 months now and though at times I could murder for one I will never smoke again. I packed up on will power alone and I was a 30 a day smoker.
I wish you luck.

I didnt go in the day before but on the smoking thing, I gave up ten years ago and have been on the nicotine gum ever since - just cant give it up but then I dont really want to.

I wasnt allowed to chew gum before as it really is Nill by Mouth but I wore a patch. They let me keep it on during surgery would you believe and I stuck with the patches for a couple of days as I couldnt have the gum until bowel sounds started up. The patches really helped me and yes I am back on the gum now - I am such a nicotine addict

Hi Moody Mare - good luck with your op.

I went in the morning of my op 7.30 in and 9.00 am on a trolley down to theatre but I suppose they are all different. I smoke and was twafting all the way there that morning! I took some patches to try when I woke up but never used them as I was up and walking the morning after and as soon as DH arrived wanted him to take me for one though the nurses insisted I went in a wheel chair. Couldn't do it now as the hospital went no smoking even on grounds this October!

Double question for UK Ladies

Hi
I went in day before at 12pm. they said it gave the anaesthiatist, specialist time to come and talk to me before op and the day of the op they are fully booked. Also the nurses did blood tests, urin tests etc on the day before. Talking to many of my friends they also did the same.

As to smoking - I gave up a few months before and if you can stay off that would be great. The anaesthetic still gave me a chesty cough for a few days so was glad I didn't have my smokers cough as well!! It might be a great opportunity for you to stop - take all the help you can.

Best wishes

Yes I forgot but Marion Rose is right - coughing afterwards is not nice so if you don't have the smokers cough too it's better x

Double question for UK Ladies

Hi there MM,
I went in on op day itself but now I think back it may have been easier to go in the day before- much easier to get the various little chats/ tests etc out of the way.
Good luck- you will be one year exactly after mine!

I went in the day before as well -2.00 pm for surgery at 9.00 am the next day. ( It's standard practice at our local womens hospital for you to spend at least the night before surgery in their care as they do all the tests, question and answers bit, and the meet the team session, so you know what/when /who.) They even let me tour the Hdu where I was spending my recovery, so that I knew the staff there, and understood all the restrictions they had. It was worth it.
Good Luck

I went in the same day but had a long pre-op session the week before with lots of talk and tests.
