Taking Premarin, have a question about blood work

Hi all I am 39 years old and I had my hysterectomy three weeks ago. I have seen my dr. twice already due to bladder problems and I keep forgetting to ask him about blood work. I have read that when you are on hrt you have to have regular blood work done, is that true? How often? He wants me to come back three weeks from now for another check up. He started me on premarin since I no longer have my ovaries. I am doing well on it. I am concerned about when I need blood work. What exactly do they look for when they check the blood? Any advise I greatly appreciate it. And also anyone taking premarin? and how are you doing on it. He told me today I need to stay on it until I am 50. I wish I could of asked him about the blood work but he always seems to be in a hurry and I hate that.

Re: Taking Premarin, have a question about blood work

Hi Lazybug -- I too just started on premarin; .3 at first and after three weeks increased to .625, as I was still having mood swings, insomnia. The problem is I feel like I am in a fog for several hours after I take it -- do you have that problem. I feel great in the early afternoon.

Also, I see all these women on other types of HRT and think maybe I should have started off with something else???

But as far as the bloodwork, I am not 100% sure, but I think only thing needed is regular bloodwork to check on liver functions, but I too will double-check with my doctor.

I will say I think it's strange your doctor is already giving you a timetable for your HRT usage. How does he know? As everyone is different and it depends on your symptoms - did he ask you if you wanted to use Premarin or another HRT? My doctor just prescribed Premarin so maybe we're in the same boat.......

How are you feeling? Are you sleeping?

Thanks ;-))
