help! i cant sleep!
I had a LAVH on May 13th. I kept my ovaries. Recovery is going well. Last weekend I started having hot flashes and my emotions have been up and down. I am coping but now insomnia is my biggest problem. It is taking hours for me to fall asleep. I've tried melatonin and benadryl and it helped a couple of nights but the past few have been driving me crazy! Once I finally fall asleep, I stay asleep but have been completely wiped out during the day. I am thinking of going to see my PCP tomorrow to get a script for Ambien because I am going to go crazy from lack of sleep. Any other suggestions? I am hoping my ovaries wake up soon. How long does this last???

Re: help! i cant sleep!
I had very similar symptoms. My ovaries eventually came out of slumber, about 2 months I believe (that's just me!). The sleep however. Oh my! Took months. With "resting" all day, not working, little physical activity and general boredom, my body wasn't tired enough to sleep at night. It passed eventually. Once i felt better and was more mobile, I slept better.

Re: help! i cant sleep!
Hi ali...i had my surgery about a month before you did, and the insomnia has been awful. I had my ovaries removed and like you had tried a bunch of otc drugs, as well as going back to the low dose of lorazapan my dr gave me before surgery. I had my first checkup last thursady and mentioned my problem. She said it was completely normal at this stage, but did give me neurontin to help with sleep and hot flashes. Ive only been taking it for a week and am not ready to recommend it yet, but maybe you could ask your doctor about it. Its so frustrating and i understand how tired you must be.....hoping sleep finds you soon!

help! i cant sleep!
I had my surgery on May 1st & this I've been having problems sleeping as well. I go see my doctor this afternoon. Didn't know this was one of the downside of having an full hysterectomie. I'm not tired throughout the day it's just Im very restless. I also on yesterday got so emotional over nothing with my family
Hopping my doctor will have some good advice for me today.

Re: help! i cant sleep!
I am 6 weeks post op and having insomnia every night. Started exercise routine for 40 minutes three days ago, but that hasn't helped. Someone suggested that this is fallout from anesthesia. Has anyone ever read or heard that?

Re: help! i cant sleep!
I have trouble sleeping as well 11 days post op I would suggest to you to try Tylenol PM before going for the heavy sleep aids. I am waking up and but able to get back to sleep but when I have had trouble in the past sleeping I have used Tylenol PM and it worked great. I think the dr said it is basically Benadryl with tylenol! I hope that helps and you get more sleep!

Re: help! i cant sleep!
I guess I am having hot flashes as well as I wake up some night and I am wringing wet!!! Sticky hair and sweat all over! So gross I guess my ovaries are taking there time adjusting to everything. I hope this passes as I was already hot before the surgery!

Re: help! i cant sleep!
I take trazadone for sleep and it works great. I like it better than ambien. I used to be completely against sleep aids..but weeks of horrible sleep makes it hard to deal with anything and hard to heal. After just one good night's rest, I felt sooooo much better. I would definitely talk to your doctor about what might work best for you.
