TAH: Wine the night before??

I a scheduled this Tuesday for TAH/SBO and spleen removal. Spleen is due to my leukemia. I started myself on a liquid diet this afternoon in addition to tomorrow in case the Dr. will let me slide on the bowel prep. Having a glass of wine tonight to help me sleep and it is my last night of loving for a long, long time.

Can I drink wine tomorrow night, before or after bowel prep??

First, I would not put yourself on a liquid diet unless it's per your doctor's instructions. You need to call your DR's office ASAP and ask about the bowel prep. Do NOT show up the day of surgery not having done one and expect that the doctor will allow you to have surgery as scheduled.

You also need to ask your doctor about the wine. It thins the blood, and especially if you are having a splenectomy I would think that you should not have it, nor should you be taking any vitamins or supplements that might thin the blood.

My pre-op instructions said to not drink any alcohol for at least 24 hours before surgery.
