Hysterectomy yesterday June 2nd: Post-op pain

I had my hysterectomy yesterday. It was laparoscopic. I had to beg to stay the night and beg for pain meds. They sent me home this morning. I am so bloated and pain meds are not working. What can I do. I am so miserable!!!

Re: Post op pain

i'm so sorry you are in so much pain. i had bad gas pains for about 48 hours but once it dissolved, i felt great. try to drink a lot of water and also try to walk some. the gas just has to dissolve and break up.

I just had mines on June 1With major complications, I'm sorry your team was being stingy with pain meds. I've been walking every hour and doing incentive spirometer, the gas is horrible but putting pressure on my back has helped

Re: Post op pain

I used an ice pack on my incisions and a heating pad on low for the shoulder pain caused by the CO2.

I started with one pain med that didn't work after the anesthesia wore off so I had to switch to a different one.

If you were to rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10 where would you be?
If my pain was above a 4 I would call my doctor.

Sorry you're in so much pain. Walking seems like the worst idea in the world but it really does help.

Re: Post op pain

Hi and welcome! As others suggest walking as much as you can comfortably will help relieve gas symptoms from the CO2 and otherwise. If you are feeling some pain in your shoulders from the CO2 used during the laparoscopic surgery, try the heating pad over your clothing on that area. If the pain is not being touched by your pain meds and your doc's office has an after hours number, give them a call. They should be able to switch you to a different pain med that should work better.

Hang in there!

call your doctor-either the surgeon or your obgyn doc. there is no reason you should have to beg for pain medication. If the pain meds aren't working then they need to give you a different scrip.
I was in agony with bloat and pain when I got home-pain meds didnt work-they immediately gave me a different type and told me to take them every six hours on the dot. it worked very well doing that.

they also told me to use a laxative, a product called gas x , and to use warming pads on low over my belly. all this helped but be sure you talk to your doc.

I pain has been like a 6. I am bleeding a lot still. I have been stingy with pain meds because I don't think they will give me anymore. Whenever I call I feel like they think I am faking. I think I have a kidney infection. I have kidney issues. I was considering going to walk in care or my normal pcp but I don't know if they could help.
