3 weeks post hysterectomy: Burning after taking a bath!?

I am now 3wks post op tvh and repairs. I was told that I could take a bath as long as I did not soak a long time in the tub. I took a bath last night and after getting out the tub I had a burning sensation in my vagina. I also had cramps. The water was not too hot. Is this something that is normal?

Re: Burning after taking a bath!?

I'm not sure but I didn't think having a bath was recommended for 6 weeks?

I'm surprised your Dr gave you the "ok" to take baths this soon post-op.

I hope your discomfort subsides quickly & all is well.

Re: Burning after taking a bath!?

Like the other ladies, I'm shocked that your doctor said it would be ok to take a bath at only 3 wks po. From what I've read, a lot of women aren't allowed to take a bath or swim for at least 6 wks...my doctor told me I can't do any of that stuff till 2 mths po.

Usually, everything is still in the early stages of healing at 3 wks po. At my 3 wk po appt my doctor checked my vaginal cuff stitches to make sure my vaginal cuff was healing correctly.

It would probably be best to call your doctor's office and let your doctor know what you're experiencing.

Re: Burning after taking a bath!?

I was allowed a bath at 10 days post op after a LAVH. I took it too. I just was told no bubble bath and to not soak a long time. I had no problems at all with it. However, since you are experiencing burning, you need to call your doctor right away and let him know. It could be something like an infection. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Like everyone else said, I would make a quick call to the doctor just to make sure, but surprisingly, my post op instructions when I left the hospital said I could shower or take a bath, as long as I didn't soak. I mostly shower, but I did take a short bath at 1 week post op and had no problems with it. Every doctor is different.
