TVH: Easy solution to having a Bowel Movement after any surgery!!!

I tried to post this in the Recovery threads but it wouldn't allow me since I have not had my Hysterectomy yet, but I have had many Major surgeries and have found the easiest, quickest, cheapest solution is to pick up a bottle of Magnesium Citrate at ANY pharmacy. This is the same stuff they give you usually the night before any surgery to "clean you out". You will be thankful for this info as I had to suffer until finding this solution.

Maybe someone can share this on the Recovery Boards so it is able to help so many that seem to be in pain from not being able to have a BM!

You are welcome to post advice in the Hints from Members section!
When it comes to post hysterectomy BM, gentle methods are preferable as strong laxatives might strain you too much in the pelvic area.
Please consult your doctor first

I agree with GPMS; in addition to the pelvic straining she mentioned, these laxatives carry a risk for dependency, which could make the constipation worse. To get things moving after your surgery, the absolute best thing you can do is to get up and start moving around as quickly as possible. And here are 2 more remedies which I've posted in the "hints from members" forum: make a smoothie with almond milk, cherries, spinach and ground flaxseed; go and sit on the toilet right after a meal, to stimulate the gastro-colic reflex, in which the stomach tells the brain that it's full, then the brain tells the colon to empty its contents, to make room for the new stuff coming in. What can also work is starting your day with something warm, like a bowl of oatmeal, a cup of peppermint tea, or a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon.
