Bowl prep= not working?

OK, so I drank the entire bottle of Magnesium Citrate around 3pm as instructed..... it's now 8:22pm, and other than a little nausea, nothing has happened. I'm not constipated- had a normal BM this morning. Should I be concerned? Or is it possible that I'm going to be up during the night?

I'm just worried now that the bowel prep isn't working and it will end up causing my surgery to be canceled tomorrow.

Re: Bowl prep= not working?

I was told only to have "clear liquids" the day before my surgery and to give myself an enema the night before surgery. (nurse explained that if i didn't do it the hospital would).

Have you tried to "walk around"..maybe get things moving?? You'll luck you will be up all night sitting on the potty!!

Hope you have a movement soon!!

Re: Bowl prep= not working?

I am surprised that didn't do anything. I hate that stuff. It gives me horrible cramps. Try drinking 32 oz. of water and see if you can get it moving. Good luck. I would say if it hasn't happened in the morning, do an enema before going in.

Re: Bowl prep= not working?

I agree do an enema if things are not moving by morning. Maybe relax drink water....they will listen to your bowel sounds in pre op and if not good they will do the enema thing for you....

Re: Bowl prep= not working?

I agree with the other people. try to drink a lot of water and move around. I have a feeling it will start to work soon. good luck and maybe try the enema or ducolax to help it. Sending lots of good wishes.
