endo questions

I am scheduled for a TVH on July 6th for endo, adeno and ovarian cysts. I have a question about endo. Can it cause bowel problems? I always seem to be constipated until my period starts then it is just the opposite. Should I bring it up to my doctor when I have my pre-op appt? Also, would she be able to check for this while doing the TVH or would I need to have the abdominal incision? I would rather have her check everything while she is already in there rather than having another surgery.

endo questions

I too have endo and yes it can effect your bowels. I have the opposite of constipation constantly. So yes, i think you should definitely discuss this with your doctor. She should know all of the facts to better choose the type of surgery you need.

endo questions

Melissa,

I have the same pattern every month! I'm constipated first, and then, well, not so constipated.

Endo, in my experience, can definitely cause bowel problems. Your uterus and bowels live in the same 'neighborhood'. Endo can aggravate the neighbors and cause their function to change. My DD and my gastro-doc have explained that the bowel is a very sensitive neighbor and since endo is most 'active' around my period, it's reasonable to think that my bowels would be most affected during this time -- even if the endo isn't on the bowel itself.

Definitely discuss this symptom with your DD. I've discussed it with mine. My understanding is that, even if done vaginally, once the uterus is removed, all the other organs can be thoroughly examined so we're still opting for the TVH.

s and hope this helps!
