MRI results & back to waiting.

I did an MRI on Thursday, 18 March & this past Friday, 26 March, I received the email results from the doctor. Now it looks like I'm waiting for next week to find out what the next step is...

email from Dr...
The MRI shows several fibroids, with one in particular that may be causing problems. This fibroid is "pedunculated", meaning on a stalk and protruding into the uterine cavity. It is not too big, which means that it might be one that could be removed using a special scope through the vagina and cervix. You are still a candidate for embolization, but I am almost certain that you will end up passing the fibroid (i.e. after embolization it will break away from the uterine wall, and expelled by your uterus through the cervix.) This is often associated with cramping, and sometimes requires dilation of the cervix to let it pass.

Re: MRI results & back to waiting.

Hi SBGoddess! It sounds like your doctor is actually interested in communicating with you about the facts, and that is such a great thing! The first doctor that I saw about my condition was the opposite, I could barely pry information out of him. So I am really happy for you on that count!

It also sounds like he has some good options to discuss with you and I hope you get your next appointment set soon so that you can continue moving forward in your decision! At least you can probobly do some research on embolization before the next appointment, or are you pretty comfortable with what that option is about?

HANG IN THERE! It really sounds like you will know your way through this soon.

Re: MRI results & back to waiting.

I just had an embolization last Wednesday for my nine fibroids and one was pedunculated too. The doctor said if the stalk dies before the fibroid then I may need the assistance to remove it. I asked how I would know if that happened and he said instead of feeling better after the embolization (after the five to seven days recovery), I would feel worse cramping. So far, seven days after the procedure, I do not have that problem. I am back at work after five days of pain meds. So far my experience with the embolization has been positive and I would recommend researching it.

You have to decide what is best for you and your life. But first research all your options so you can ask enough questions.

Good luck and best wishes,
Clemson gal
