coughing & sinus infection surgury 01/03

I have had a sinus/ upper respiratory infection for a week already.. .my da Vinci is on Tuesday. I went to my doctor this past Tuesday and got 3 days of antibiotics & a steroid shot. It is better but not gone. My gyno said I'd be ok for surgury. I'm nervous about being sick but don't want to cancel surgury. I do smoke but have really cut back. Is there anyone else that was sick at surgury? Is there anything I can do to help get it gone faster?? I don't want this to go to my chest....so far so good. My chest is clear & my nose drip is clear. Any ideas or tips?? Its going to hurt my tummy to blow my nose or cough. I want this gone.....

Re: coughing & sinus infection surgury 01/03

I suggest you see how you feel Monday. If you are still sick please call your Dr. Let your Dr decide if you are healthy enough for surgery. I know waiting is hard and putting off surgery would not be your ideal plan, but complications would be worse. Best wishes to you as you continue your journey.

Re: coughing & sinus infection surgury 01/03

One question to ask might be about issues with positioning and anesthesia. I think they intubate you during surgery and the whole process bothered my sinuses and throat for 2-3 weeks post surgery. If you already have inflamed sinuses, this might or might not add another challenge to the healing process. I completely understand not wanting to postpone after waiting to get in. I would agree with Beth L that you might want to check in with the doctor on Monday once you see how the antibiotics have gone.

Definitely speak to your doctor if you are not feeling better on Monday. While postponing would be difficult, it might be necessary to protect your health. Let your doctor know everything so he/she can make the best decision.

Good luck....

(((Hugs))) to you
