Re: Anyone go in for myomectomy and end up with hysterectomy?

Yes, I did, kind of. But I had other problems going on too. And my doctor knew that I was okay with anything she had to do while I was "under". I ended up being glad to have it all done at once, but I was done with those organs! And ready to be pain free!

Re: Anyone go in for myomectomy and end up with hysterectomy?

I've been given the same possibility if I choose the myomectomy, so I think it is a valid concern. My fibroid is much bigger than yours, though, so it seems your surgery might be less risky. I would definitely get another opinion from a surgeon who does a LOT of myomectomies. There is one in my area who does a lot of volunteer surgeries in South America where this is a huge problem for young women who want to maintain their fertility. I'm not suggesting you go to South America, but rather to seek out a doctor who does this surgery all the time. Then I think you will have a better chance at having a successful myo without having it turn into a hysterectomy. Good luck to you!

Re: Anyone go in for myomectomy and end up with hysterectomy?

It is my biggest fear. I might not have children but hope is precious. However, I have been told it is extremely rare. In fact many doctors have never had it happen to them. However, the hospital I am booked in had it happen for the first time in twelve years last year. So I decided the risk was real, but minimal. I would be considering getting another doctor though if she does lots of hysterectomies, or having a chat about how many myomectomies she has done and how recently.

Re: Anyone go in for myomectomy and end up with hysterectomy?

I had a Myomectomy in December and I had the same fear (I am 32). My fibroid was larger than yours and the surgery was a complete success. My surgeon told me that the only reason that he'd have to perform a Hyst. was if I started having tremendous blood loss or if they determined the growth to be cancerous. Considering your age the odds are extremely low. They have to share the risks which I understand is scary but odds are you'll be just fine!!! Good luck!
