Rejection of mesh causing absess

Hi Ladies

Well I had another lap on Wednesday and came home yesterday. I had my left ovary and tube removed due to horrible cysts that keep coming back. My bowel was also stuck to some scar tissue.

My biggest concern though was an absess found which was full of the mesh barrier treatment from my last surgery 3 months ago. My Dr says it looks like my body rejected it and caused this absess. He has never seen anything like it. He called another surgeon in to have a look and he also has never seen anything like it. I am one of the unlucky ones who suffer really badly with adhesions. This is the 2nd time in 3 months my bowel has moved and adhered to scar tissue causing bowel issues. I am so worried that this is going to continue to happen. Is there something that can be done to keep the bowel where it is supposed to be?

Anyone else had something like this. My Dr wants us to go back to him in a week to discuss what the next plan is. I can't be having surgery every few months, that is ridiculous. I am exhausted and devastated that after 20 years, I am still having so many issues. I am so grateful for my husband and family and especially my Dr as he said he won't give up on me when all I feel like doing is giving up.

Thanks for listening. xox

Re: Rejection of mesh causing absess

I am so sorry you've had such problems.
Is it adhesions that are your main source of concern? I do know that there are many women here on Hyster Sisters who have had persistent adhesions and repeat ahesiolysis surgeries. You can do a search for them on the site using the Google box to the upper right of the page here.

If its the barrier that is causing you the concern, I'm not sure what to say for that. I don't recall reading about anyone who has had rejection issues with one of those--I'm assuming it IS a dissolvable one--types. I had Interceed put in me after removal of adhesions and my Fallopian tubes in 6/07. When I had surgery a little over a year later for what was suspected further adhesions, my doctor found very few but he did remove my cystic ovary (the source of the pain as he was telling me afterwards).

I do hope you find resolution for all you need.
