5 days post hysterectomy: Scary unexpected symptom / pain
Hi ladies,
I am 5 days out. Came home at 10pm Saturday after finally passing gas that morning and being able to hold down crackers dipped in broth (whoop whoop!)
Today is my second full day at home. At times I feel worse than I did day 1. Idk if I set myself up for disappointment, but I was sooo sure that after the gas started passing and my chest and shoulders weren't on fire anymore I'd be ok dealing with the incision. What a fool I was!!!!!
My breasts feel twingy like I'm trying to lactate, the gas is rumbling thru my entire gut but it won't come out!! I have a very small appetite feeling nauseous alot and my gut is totally empty from the bowel prep Tuesday night, so I don't think there is even any bowel to pass. One thing started feeling better and other new things are hurting, tugging, itching etc.
I am however concerned about one thing I have not seen in reading other posts.....
I have a pain that started earlier this morning. It is about an inch or so below the center of my upper abdomen by the sternum and slightly to the left. Pain is pretty consistent. Has anyone had this? Is it something serious? I keep thinking about aortic something or other.
Thank you for any insight and
Best wishes to all who are healing.

Re: Scary unexpected symptom
I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I didn't have the real bad gas that everyone else has had but gas can cause a lot of pain in very odd places. Make sure you use Gas Ex - my friend recommended the ones that you put on your tongue and let dissolve... I'm guessing it works faster. I did notice if you can keep your bowels and bladder empty the pain is a lot easier. You've been through a rough surgery and your insides have been moved and manipulated like wouldn't believe your other organs may be a little angry at you right now. Odd pains are not un-normal. Now if they are unbearable and you find bleeding or the nausea persists call your Dr or go to the ER.
ALSO- I had an allergic reaction to Norco which caused itching, stomach upset, and huge rash. If you think you may be having an allergic reaction go back to the hospital

5 days post hysterectomy: Scary unexpected symptom / pain
Thank you!!! I am doing all if this w/o pain meds. Have taken one dose of Tylenol everyday as narcotics make me sick and the last thing I want is to throw up.
Hoping it doesn't get worse before getting my staples out tomorrow.
Thank you for the support.

Re: 5 days post hysterectomy: Scary unexpected symptom / pain
Not sure if this is the same but I had a consistent pain under my rib cage on the left side for weeks - my doc could only put it down to some sort of bruising of the abdominal and inter-rib muscles. It was particularly bad if I bent over or reached up for something, so I just avoided this type of movement. It went off eventually but was a nuisance as it was there after all the other obvious aches and pains from the surgery had improved.
I hope you feel better soon.
