Kept Ovaries and now...

I am almost a month post op and I started my last period the day before my surgery, and I felt the same sharp pain I usually feel before my period starts usually on my left side where my ovary is located. I usually cycle no sooner than 6 weeks and skipped up to 6 months between periods. I was never regular. But, I usually felt pain on one side or the other within a week of starting.

I was wondering from those who kept their ovaries did you still experience PMS symptoms and pain in the ovaries when you ovulated? I kept my ovaries because of my age, 35 and because my DR said they looked really good. I gave him the ok to remove them if they were diseased.

Just wondering how others felt around the time they would have started their next period.

Re: Kept Ovaries and now...

Hi.....yes, i had a TAH 10 weeks ago, kept my ovaries too. I also started a period the day before surgery, and have had what feels like ovary pain twice since the surgery. Also tender breasts a couple of times.
I don't mind though, not like i would have done before, as it's a good indication that my ovaries are working :-)
Being in the UK, we don't all get any follow up appointments with our gyn, my area being one of them :-(
So no vaginal cuff check, or blood tests to check hormones, so i only have these breast/ovary pain symptoms to go by!
But it does seem as though they must be working :-)

Re: Kept Ovaries and now...

Thanks Michelle. Your right, I guess my ovaries are working. I should be happy about that. I just kind of wanted no reminder of my periods. But if that is the only reminder I am happy about it!!

Re: Kept Ovaries and now...

Hi again! It does sound as though we both have ovaries that are doing SOMETHING at least, maybe not in the correct order yet, but anything is better than nothing. I'm only 39 myself, so really want them to be in good working order, lol.
