Surgery in 2 days...Scared and Confused

I'm scheduled for Wed. morning. I think everything is ready. I've done the pre_op, cleaned my house, caught up all laundry, stock up groceries.
I've had 3 opinions that all say the same thing. I know I need this, I know the risks of not having it. I'm trying very hard to let my family know I'm all right, but I feel like I'm freaking out inside. So many questions, Am I doing the right thing, what if's and a feeling that I'm giving up (I wanted so much to have 1 more, tried for 10 years) I have been honest with my 10 yr old, he knows everything. He told me he would rather have me than a brother or sister, and my heart just broke. I'm normally not this emotional. I have made a well researched decision, so why can't I stop crying. I know how hard this is going to be on my husband and have taken steps to make it as easy as possible but feel like such a burden. Am I normal to feel this way?

Re: Surgery in 2 days...Scared and Confused

Everything you are feeling is normal and don't worry about your husband he will be ok. I had those anxieties also thought my insides were chattering, couldn't keep my head from thinking about the surgery 24/7. My husband was a rock, understood and stayed strong for me the whole way through. This is major surgery and you are so entitled to be scared. Once you get to the hospital, you will be ready to go and you will start to feel better, they asked me if I wanted to walk to the ER or get a bed, I told them bed, they gave me something to relax once I was on the bed and pretty much the next thing I woke up in the recovery room. Be strong you can do this and try to keep your mind distracted as much as possible. Sending you love and strength.

HI mjc007, HUGS! Sending good thoughts your way! I'm trying not to talk about my surgery all the time, but I know what you mean, you just cant "shut it off" sometimes. I too, feel bad for my husband, but I know he'll be there for me, and that this surgery is the best thing for my overall health. Best Wishes to you!

Re: Surgery in 2 days...Scared and Confused

Loves Summer, Thanks so much. My husband has been great. He went to Dr with me on the 3rd opinion and asked questions I didn't think of. I have appologized ahead of time for what he will go thru. I think I'm getting on his nerves, but he he doesn't say so. He just says he can't stand to see me hurt so much all the time and it will be worth it in the long run to see me myself again. I love him so much

mjc007,
I understand completely was your saying. When I snap at my husband, I'm apologizing in the next breath! Like your husband, he too is there for me with all of this. My dr is great with my husband, explaining everything to me also. It makes going through this process so much easier when you have such a great support system.

Re: Surgery in 2 days...Scared and Confused

You are so welcome! Try to keep busy to help pass the time, I have my one month follow up on Thurs, I am waiting to find out if I need chemo, had a cyst removed that was cancerous, so waiting for some good news, all other tests came out negative so that was good. Write to me any time I will keep you in my prayers, by the way feeling really good so things will get better. Patti

What you are feeling is completely normal. Just think how much better you will feel once you are recovered! I'm almost 1 month post op and can hardly wait to want to play with my grandkids and do all the things I haven't been able to do for a long time - like wear light colored pants and not buy sanitary pads by the crate!

Re: Surgery in 2 days...Scared and Confused

I am having my LSH on Thursday. I think I've done the best I can to make sure I am having the right procedure for me, but I am still very afraid. As the day gets closer, I am becoming more withdrawn and cranky--it's just how I tend to deal with high stress situations.

My husband says the same things yours does. He just wants me to feel better so I can get back to myself and my life again. He hates seeing me in pain and unhappy.

We'll get through this and we will come out the other side the better for it. *hugs*
