Unhappy - hormone questions, too much testosterone? hormone questions, too much testosterone?

I had my uterus-only Hyst 5/04 at the age of 30. I'm now 34. For the past year I've had COUNTLESS blood tests with each one telling me "your thyroid is fine, your hormones are fine, you're too young for menopause".

- Sexual drive is normal.

- Sleep is fine.

- I have gained 30 pounds in the past 18 months and noone can figure out why. I can't lose it no matter how much I eat right, diet, or exercise.

- I'm a tad moody.

- In the past 3 months I've developed a "shade" above my upper lip. Never there EVER and it's FREAKING me out!

- My hair is much dryer than it used to be.

- And also in the past 3 months I've noticed that where I used to go 3-4 days between shaving my legs, I now have to do it almost daily.

I don't want to do HRT if I can help it yet, I'm only 34. But I am open to it.

I just yesterday purchased Estroven as it was the only thing I found in the store.

I am open to herbal alternatives.

hormone questions, too much testosterone?

I hear ya. I am so torn I am about to go crazy. Doc prescribed Estratest HS a couple years ago. It's great for my sleeping, sexuality.

But lately... my hair is thinning, I am getting a moutache, more hair on my toes, and it honestly does not prevent complete hot flashes like before.

AND, to boot, I am now on a diruetic for blood pressure as it has gone up in recent months.

So I got an RX for premarin again... .625... and figure I should just go back to it. but when I do... I don't sleep quite as good. And no...absolutely no...sexual desire.

I am soooo confused.

hormone questions, too much testosterone?

Heather,
There is a condition called PCOS, where the body can produce too much testosterone. I say body because even though the name of the syndrome is related to the ovaries, removing the ovaries doesn't always resolve the problems as it can be an endocrine disorder. You indicate that you had your hormones tested, did they test your testosterone levels also? I don't know alot about this condition but have seen some posts here about it. You can do a search of this forum, use PCOS as your keyword, and you should come up with some interesting reading. You can also check out our Resources section for more info to see if any of your symptoms fit. Hope the info helped.
