Specific questions about sexual activity before Doctor ck/up
Before anyone panics . . . my doctor okayed "everything but" intercourse . . . the only restrictions he gave was based on how I felt post-op. I KNEW I would be hormonally deranged waaaay before the "ok" date . . . so believe me, I asked specific questions at my pre-op appointment about this. I knew I needed to know EXACTLY what I could and couldn't do. My main concern was . . . can I have an orgasm before I see him for the post-op check (I'd read here some doctors say "no - nothing at all"). He said ABSOLUTELY! (whew!)
He told me that after day 5 I should be feeling really good. That the recovery for the TVH is quick and typically uncomplicated. He said that in his experience he expects his patients to return to their post-op appointments (he sees his patients at 4 weeks) having resumed 80% of their normal activities . . . which often will include sexual activity. He also said that at the 4 week check-up, he generally gives his patients the green light to resume intercourse . . . that only in a very few situations has he had to tell a patient to wait longer. He said it all depends upon how I feel . . . and of course how I have healed. He did say the more rigurous sexual activity will have to be taken slowly (so I guess no "hot monkey circus sex" - as someone referred to in another thread . . LOL!)
I am 11 days post op today. I have felt GREAT since day 5 - no bleeding, very little pain or discomfort at all. Only some mild cramping here and there. I feel so good that I have to MAKE myself take it easy . . . I do understand that I can overdo it. I also understand we need to take things slowly. I want to be with my husband in a more intimate way but want to know if others here have had any problems if they did.
I get it that some doctors are more restrictive . . . I also get that we all heal differently and caution should always be the case. For those of us who do (did) feel really good post-op and are ready for more activity than others . . . I would really like to hear from you . . . .
Around what point did you begin to resume sexual activity? Did you have any problems and do you relate it to too soon? Also, once you have an orgasm post-op, did you find any side affects . . . like cramping, bleeding, etc?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Specific questions about sexual activity before Doctor ck/up
I was cleared for sex after 3 weeks and had no cramping or bleeding. It was great to be able to enjoy it without dreading the pain that would come after!!!

Re: Specific questions about sexual activity before Doctor ck/up
Thanks for the response. I know there's more gals out there who have not been told they have to wait for 6 weeks . . . or that they can have NO sexual activity at all until they are checked by doc.
However, it seems like the norm is a 6 week wait.
Just wish more would reply so we could hear from those whose doctors were not as conservative. What were your experiences with the earlier sexual activity? I am not referring to those who couldn't wait and went ahead with early intercourse w/out doctor's approval.
I'm looking for those whose doctors okayed activity (outside of intercourse). . . . any advice to the rest of us? Wished you waited longer because it set you back? Everything went okay?

I was given the green light at my four week checkup.
Happy to report the plumbing still works fine!

Re: Specific questions about sexual activity before Doctor ck/up
Hey FishingWidow,
I had TVH, easy recovery. Released for sex at 6 weeks but told there was one stitch in cuff not quite healed. I decided to wait just to be safe. Better safe than sorry is my mantra!
I waited until 8 1/2 weeks for intercourse and everything worked great! I had first orgasm around 2 1/2-3 week mark, slight cramping but nothing else.
If in doubt, WAIT!
Good luck.

Re: Specific questions about sexual activity before Doctor ck/up
I'm about 2/5 weeks out, and took a chance yesterday. My doc has not restricted me on anything except actual intercourse for 6 weeks. He didn't even restrict my driving... my hubby did though, but he may want to always restrict my driving..haha! Anyways, I decided to take things into my own hands yesterday to make sure it worked still. I had tried about a week ago in the shower, but I think some parts were still numb, so there wasn't much success. My hubby bought me a little toy last year, and I used that yesterday and had much success. No more dryness like before surgery and everything else seems to be as normal! Yay! Now maybe I'll let hubby know so he can join in on the fun too....
