TVH turned TAH

Has anyone been scheduled for a TVH and woke up to find that they had to have a TAH??

My doctor is planning on doing the surgery TVH, but i have heard 'stories' of women having to have a TAH because of "issues".

Yes, add this to the dang list that i have already built in my head of worries.

When I scheduled my hysterectomy, my doctor said I would be having a TVH, but I could wake up having had a TAH. I just made sure I was mentally prepared for both, just in case. My TVH was successful.

Hang in there! Having a head full of worries can be quite normal.

Daisy, ask the dr if s/he thinks that a TAH is possible in your case. Then ask them how possible they think a TAH could be for you. Then ask how often they've had to change to a TAH with women who have similar issues to you. I'm a big believer in asking questions of the dr and staff. As of right now, the possibility of surgery for me is late June or early July (i'll be talking to my PCP Monday regarding other health issues that could make surgery more difficult, and figuring out if the wait is needed or if the surgery is needed more) and thanks to you and others here, I have a HUGE list of questions for everyone from my PCP, to my Ob/Gyn, to the OR nurses. Ask, Ask, Ask! And then share with us! That way we have a hint as to what the answers could be from our own drs.

Thanks! I will ask the doctor what he thinks my chances are. He did mention that "if you lived closer i would have you go in before surgery so i can just have a look around to know exactly what we are dealing with".

I chose to go an hour away from my home town. It is a "boys club" here with the doctors and GOD FORBID you 2nd guess a Doctor here.

Guess i will figure it out when i wake up!

I'm thankful i live in a fairly large town and 2nd opinions are easy to get. When i was seen in the hospital (i *thought* i had appendicitis, turned out it was "female issues" that i didn't expect or suspect) the Ob/Gyn brought in wanted to take a lookie see if the surgeon opted to take a peek. (I was not an easy diagnosis) She ordered an ultrasound which showed up things the CT didn't. When i went to schedule a follow up with the Ob/Gyn, i found she doesn't accept my insurance, but her office recommended another dr who does. I kinda feel as if i've had a 2nd opinion already.
