freaked out

I am going in 10-18 for a LAVH. I haven't anything done other than a tonsilectomy(sp) and natural childbirth. I am scared to death. I have fibroids and excessive long time bleeding. I have had 3 Lupron shots. They have helped alot. I have been reading the postings on the website and I think they have calmed me a bit but I am still scared. Help!

I, like you, have had very little surgical experience. I just keep thinking of how wonderful it will be to have a life that my uterus does not rule! Just these thoughts fill me with great optimisum. Remain joyful and greatful!

From what I have read from other sisters on this site you are having the easiest procedue in terms of pain and recovery. I was also terrified before, everyone is, but even though mine was abdominal and I had a major complication I can tell you that the waiting is the worst part. Before you know where you are you will be on the other side and recoverring. My period would have been due this week and I can't tell you how excited I am knowing that it won't come.

Misandie,
I was also very frightened. I had never had general anesthesia or surgery. I had my surgery on the 3rd and was released from the hospital on the 6th. Everything went well the surgical staff was wonderful and I am now managing my pain with only Ibuprofen. The waiting is hard, but I believe it is worth it to have my life and health back.

been there done that

Hi Sisters

I had what you are having . Like you I never had surgery before and had heard tons of horror stories.
I had several meltdowns, crying spells, and moment of sheer terror. But I kept busy working, and getting house and life together. I stocked up on everything imaginable, cooked and froze meals, and cleaned the house like a crazy woman. By the time I was ready for surgery I was exhausted! LOL.
The waiting is really the hardest part. Do whatever you need to do to get thru it, and remember you have your sisters to lean on

Hey, yogislady, we share the same surgery date! I'll keep my eye out for you. As to the worrying misandie, we all do it! You wouldn't be normal if you didn't. I don't have kids to worry about as some of these women do, but I worry for my husband, I worry for my pets, I worry about my job and, yeah, I worry about me! I have never had surgery where they actually had to cut into me. I've only had two d&c's and those were a breeze. Very little recovery there. So I am worried. I know I will be stir crazy very early on and it will be hard not to get up and "do" somethings. But I must. We are all here to help and remind each other that it happens faster than it seems and once it is over, we will be so much better off! Hang in there. Posting here really does help! Here are some hugs, since we all need them!

Thank you for your words of support. I know I will be better on the other side. The waiting and fear is taking over my usual level head. Got the call from the castel today to talk to the RN for preop. I'll call tomorrow.
