Staples???

Hi Sista's!!!!

I am 4 weeks away from my visit to the castle, I was afraid of so many things but all of you have provided such great info, that I am completely cool with the whole idea, thank you all very much.

Yesterday, my dr called and asked how I felt about staples on the external incision, (because I am allergic to Dexon the most commonly used stitch) I told her to do what she felt was best, but I have had the night to think about it....and you know what happens when we think too much lol....

Have any of you had staples, how does it heal, do you have to have them removed, does it hurt, how is the scarring afterwards?

Darn drs., should be allowed to put all these thoughts into our heads!!

Staples???

Hi, I had an abdominal incision with 14 staples. 7 were removed the day I left the hospital, the rest at my 2 week post op exam. It felt like a little sting when they were removed, not actually pain.

They didn't really cause me any problems. I did have to be careful not to bump them and not let undies get caught on them ( so I just didn't wear undies )

My dr told me to just keep the incision area clean and dry. I healed very well, one small infection that cleared up with a silver nitrate treatment ( that burned a bit).

Now at over a year and a half, my scar is barley visible.

Best wishes.

Staples???

Hi sister
I had staples and they were removed on day 7. I was told to keep them moist with triple antibiotic ointment prior to their removal and that would make them slide right out. I did not feel a thing!
good luck

talk to your Dr about using super glue i know it sound weird but a lot of Dr have gone to that the heal time is faster and leaves less scaring

Staples???

My staples were removed on day 3. Didn't hurt at all. They just put on Steri Strips at that time. The Dr. said that if they remove the staples early, that we don't get the 'railroad track' look. I'm 17 days post op now, and my scar is just a teeny straight line that is simply going to be just about invisble.

Staples???

I had staples after TAH/BSO in November. Had every other one removed after 7 days and the others removed a week later. I had no pain at all and the scar is just a very thin line that is hardly noticeable.
