dysplasia and the biop

hi everyone

five years ago i had a pap that came back abnormal, not a big deal ever once and a while that happens and things turn out to be fine.
i had a biop done and came back with mild dysplasia (abnorma cells). at this stage the drs just watch it to make sure that it doesnt turn cancerious.
here we are last month i went to a new dr because of of a few problems that i was having (abnormal period, sever mood swings, and the big one PAINFULL SEX). dh and i have not had relations in a little over a yr. i am going in for another biop on the 10th of sept.
i have been coming to this site for about a month now and i have come to the concusion that hyster is right for me. i dont want to end up with cancer nor do i want to be a lab rat that ends up having half a dozon things done to her just to end up having the hyster in the end.
i hope that someone out there know what i am going through and can help me to the other side. the side where life can be grand again. love to hear from you.

dysplasia and the biop

Hello Nicole! I always had normal paps until the summer of 99, and that was when my nightmare began.
I really think that you need to speak to your doctor about your feelings. There is no sense in living your life like a time bomb, waiting to see if this turns to cancer when you have already accepted the fact of a hysterectomy. Have you read and gotten info pertaining to a hysterectomy here? A lot of women feel that it is a quick fix, when in turn many women deal with more issues afterwards. Maybe that is why your own doctor has not mentioned a hyst before. Either way, I would be sure to take a list of questions and your thoughts in to the office for your next visit!
I also would like to invite you to the Cancer Concerns Board. I'm sure that you will find that your feelings pertaining to an abnormal pap are not unusual. It always helps to speak to someone who has been through the same thing as you are going through now. I don't want to pressure you, but if you would like to post there, feel free. Maybe just reading would help you too! If you would like, feel free to email me!

dysplasia and the biop

Hi Nicole, it is a worry when you have an abnormal pap, but mild dysplasia isn't usually treated by having a hysterectomy. Mild dysplasia is a low grade abnormality and will often heal without treatment. Usually the treatment can be either - continued observation with pap smears every six months or to have the abnormal cells removed.

Now, the painful sex and bleeding.... this does need to be checked out. It is good that you are having a biopsy done , at least you will know if there is any abnormality now.

A hysterectomy is a major operation and like Cyd says isnt always the answer. Once you have your results back and have spoken to the Dr. then, you can read and ask questions and be very well informed and then you can make a decision about which way to go.

I would also like to extend an invitation to you . CANCER CONCERNS is a great place, where all of us have had some dealing with either pre cancer or cancer and really do have an idea of how you are feeling right now. Please feel free to come on over and say hi. And remember that we are here for you at all times. Take good care x x

dysplasia and the biop

Thanks for the new site info glad to see that I wasn't talking to the wind.
I understand the concerns that you have. My grandmother started out with the same thing dysplasia that turned pre-cancer and just last year my mother went through the same thing. Both these important women are standing by me through this.
If it where not bad enough to have pre-cancer on my mothers side of the family I have brest cancer that runs on my fathers side. The dr is going thru the motions of the biop just to see how far the dysplasia has come in five years. Last that I knew there where three leasions and two of which went into the other side of the cervix.
Anyway thanks for replies in need all the help I can get.
