I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

So, through all of my pre-op time, I thought I was going to be in so much pain afterward and that it wasn't going to be manageable, and I am doing so much better than I thought I would do. Except for my swelly belly and gas, I am doing amazing. I have even passed gas already. And what's even taking me for a loop, I have not a one drop of discharge! Is that normal? And I can't really tell if it's me really being tired, or the anesthesia and pain meds, but I'll be okay one minute, and then I'll just be out of it, and absolutely have to fall asleep. I am so glad I have found this site. I've been raving about it here at the hospital, and nobody has even heard of it. Need to get that word around! Anyway, had a few sleepless moments, and just wanted to chitter chatter for a minute! Hope all of my sisters are doing good. I am so glad to be on the other side!

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

congratulations!!
yes, I was also euforic day 1. the stress is gone, you have it behind you and still lots of medicine in your veins.
I do have to warn you that things will become more normal in a few days, could even be uncomfortable, but there is no need to be scared. I have not been in a lot of pain, and there are many more that say the same. It is not as bad as we thought! days three and four will be a little bit more difficult, but nothing that you cannot take!
Good luck with your recovery and keep us posted!

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

Yippeee! I felt the same after mine on Aug. 12th. I could have written your post! I am 16 days post op now and still doing just grrrrreat! I had a lil gas pain but not even enough to mention. I never had any serious pain at all.

The nodding off and on are due to the meds... especially the morphone pain pump if you have that. ( I think ) Getting out of bed the first time is a little tricky but nothing that is not manageable. I actually think think the worse for me may have been the backache and my tailbone was sore from staying in that hopsital bed so long (24 hours) before I was mobile.

Best of wishes as you recover!

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

I too felt great afterwards but just remember to still take it easy and not overdo things!! You don't want to have any setbacks,( I also had no discharge.) It was wonderful as I was able to leave aunt Flo at the castle, one minute period going on & the next it wasn't. And it only gets better

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

Just remember that just because you feel great your body has still been through a lot. You may be tempted to do a little more than you should and that's when you pay. I felt great the 1st 2 weeks couldn't believe it. Even the Dr. On my 1st post op visit to remove staples and drain was shocked at how well I looked and moved...week 3 not so good suddenly my belly was sore, I got the pain on the lower right side of my incision I heard others talk about too. So be thankful for how well you feel but beware not to do too much. Take all the time they give you and enjoy the relaxation...I learned housework can wait.... Your healing must come 1st!

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

I didn't have the morphine pump, because I had a spinal. They said I had to wait for 24 hours before I could do the morphine pump, but I don't feel like I need it. I was out of bed at 3 p.m. and my surgery was at 8:45 in the morning. I've been out of bed and walking several other times, and I just got my catheter out and my IV is just on standby now. No fluid flowing into it! Yay!!!! I have even been able to sleep on my side the first night already. The gas pains are killing me. The only reason I'm taking meds is for the gas pains. I have passed gas, but only a couple times. I found laying on my side helped that a lot (as long as I had pillows to prop). Doctors in here so I gotta go!!! Thanks ladies!

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

Congrats! I also felt great right after surgery and was amazed at how well I moved around. Even 4 weeks out I can see that most of my problems have come from being tired or gas pains... I have been SO happy with my recovery. I also have had little to no discharge- woohooo!
Best wishes for a continued great recovery.

Re: I feel awesome....I thought I would feel awful!

Everything turned out fine!

After a really exhausting pre-op (I expected laprascopic surgery for 3 months but because of bladder repair surgeon changed plans to abdominal surgery - SURPRISE, SURPRISE -24 hours before surgery).

Surgery went fine.

And now some pain, yes, but not too hard ( had worse cramps back in those old times). Still in hospital (staff is so nice), still with catheter (because of bladder surgery - it sucks, but hey 2 more days won't kill me).

Good luck to all my sisters! Smooth recovery!
