Staples, sutures, etc

I have staples and have them taken out on Tuesday. What should I expect? Am I given something for pain beforehand? Does doc just remove them? Any bandage needed afterwards? How much pain afterwards?

Re: Staples, sutures, etc

I was given nothing for pain when my staples were removed. Honestly, it it did not hurt, I just felt a little pinch.

when were your staples removed/follow up schedule

when were your staples removed? for some reason, i thought that this would be done during the initial fu, which is 2 wks, right? my doc wants me to come in mon or tu. i'm pretty sure that she's also going to make me come in a wk later. what was your fu schedule after being released from the hospital?

Re: when were your staples removed/follow up schedule

I think this depends perhaps on where they are, perhaps your size? Etc and how many.
I had 36 vertical ones and am quite a bit over my weight. They should have been done st 10 days but due to infection were done in 14.

Re: Staples, sutures, etc

what about your follow up schedule after that? do you a 2wk follow up, and then a monthly follow up or something like that? this is something that i normally would have planned out for my insurance plan at work, but i was so anxious to get it done, that i just scheduled the appt. now, i have an extra $600 in my fsa for next yr bc i added it just in case i decided to have surgery next yr.

Re: Staples, sutures, etc

There really is no "set" schedule for post op visits to the doctor. It depends on the doctor. Some see you at 2 weeks and then at 6 weeks, some only one time at 6 weeks. I had my first visit at 10 days and then again at 6 weeks. Check with your doctor.
