rectal spasms

Hi I have bad rectal spasms when I have a BM, it is very painful. I'm 9 days post op lavh. Is this normal? i have tried everything from Milk of magnesium, gas x, and tonight i took miralax for the first time to see how it works. Other than this my recovery is going good. Please tell me this horrible pain is not forever. Any advice?

It takes a while for bm's to start to feel normal again. I hope the Miralax has helped. If you continue to experience painful spasms, be sure to talk with your doctor to find out if there's something else you could try.

I had two difficult BMs while using Colace. I switched to MiraLax and things were fine the next morning. Only needed the MiraLax 2 days and everything is OK now. Hope you have good luck with it too.

hi,i am 13 days post op TVH. i am experiencing the same spasms when i have a bm and it puts me off going making things worse..i am trying a gentle laxative to help me sometimes its just wind with me but its really painful,take care.xx

I am 20 days post op VH & repair and totally relate. Glad you posted, it's so helpful to see others are going thru and know that everything is basically normal....if uncomfortable....

I am 1 wk out from my TAH. I started having severe rectal spasms/pain in my rectum within the last 48 hours. It's mainly when I go to the bathroom for BM. I am not constipated. I have been taking Miralax daily since the surgery to prevent any post op constipation. But, now the pain is kind of constant now. I saw MD today. Stated was normal thing??? I feel I will be OK since I see that so many of you are having the same thing. I hope this corrects itself quickly. It is very painful. I'm taking Motrin 600mg every 6 hours trying to get the inflammation down and I will continue with the Miralax to keep stools soft. If anyone finds out some kind of scientific info on what is going on with this pain/spasm, PLEASE let me know.

it does get better with time. i started taking the miralax and things have been much better, no spasms, or pain just a wierd sensation but not painful. good luck and hang in there.

Oh thank goodness someone else posted about this. What do rectal spasms feel like to you. I am 7 days post abdominal laporscopic and my BM have been fine. Today, it feels like someone literally stuck a knife in my rectum.. Very sharp pain and afraid to go. Hard to sit in a chair. Feels like I have a bowling ball to come out along with sharp take your breath away pain. I am not constipated either. The gas moving also causing the same pain. Also found it harder to urinate today. Very scary.
