Digestive issues?

I've always had digestive issues and mine used to get worse around the time of my period's start.

But do any of you have increased digestive issues with your menopause?

I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and it's kind of like the fibromyalgia of the digestive issues world -- no set symptoms and causes for everyone. So I have to just pick and choose what I think will or won't work for me and try it out.

Re: Digestive issues?

Donna,

Yes, I have had major digestive issues for many years, even before the hyst. But I had things under control. Than surgical menopause hit and things got much worse. Accupuncture has helped me alot, especially with the bowel issues. But it's still a matter of careful eating and not overeating.

Re: Digestive issues?

Could I ask about some details of your careful eating? And if your issue has been constipation related or diarrhea related? If too personal, just ignore me.

Re: Digestive issues?

Many years ago I had some allergy testing done and turned out I was allergic to a large list of foods. Eating these foods caused/causes me much digestive distress. I have to be careful to avoid these foods.

Also, limiting portion sizes, eating lighter meals/snacks and avoiding overstuffing myself. Example; I can tolerate very little steak as it is so heavy. I mainly eat fish and turkey now. I have to careful with veggies also as my stomach can't take alot of raw crunchy foods.

Gluten, wheat, bran, anything high in fiber can send things into a tailspin.

Before I started accupuncture I was having lots of diarrhea. Prior to surgery I was constipated alot. My accupuncturist said the diarrhea long term is not good as it depletes your body of vital nutriets.
