What to take......

On the main page go to hysterectomy checkpoints. Then go to pre-op on the right hand side. Go down the page. There is a list there.

Click on Checkpoints, then on pre-op. Scroll down to the bottom of the page-there is a list of what to take to the hospital. Good luck!

What to take......

I recieved one of those e-mails asking if I was ready...

A "belly pillow"? That one had me wondering... is that anything special? Remembering Dad's heart surgery, and he was given a special little pillow, I have to wonder... any especially recommended covering for this pillow? Like... easily cleaned, lint free, that kind of thing? What size? 12" square? Bed Pillow? Body Pillow?

And speaking of pillows... any advice for sleeping comfort after the operation? I'm a side sleeper... tend to wake myself up snoring if I sleep on my back (and I put up quite a ruckus), and, uh, being somewhat well endowed, there is that heavy feeling...

I got a laugh out of the back scratcher, but thought it was an excellent idea.

But do yourself a favor and don't overpack. I only needed my chapstick! Best wishes ~

What to take......

I packed a few books (which I didn't read), several pairs of warm socks and slippers (cold hospital floors), 2 nightshirts, 1 robe, toothbrush and deodorant, pads, panties, gum and chapstick. I packed baggy sweat pants and sweat shirt to wear home because you want to be as comfy as possible without clothing clinging too tightly against your stomach. I

Good luck,
Becky

Re: belly pillow - I just bought a little 'travel pillow' and it's about the right size to hold against your tummy those first couple of weeks when you have to cough, and it sure felt good under the seat belt on the trip home.

I sleep with a body pillow, and I don't remember NOT sleeping on my side since I got home. I put the pillow between my legs, and hug one end of it up against my tummy. Ni ni zzzzzz

I too am a side sleeper. I have yet been able to sleep on my side!@! I have a wedge pillow (rather than straight up, it is an incline) and I have pillows under my knees. It is not that bad but I can not wait til I can comfortably sleep on my side. Take care. Tracie

What to take......

I'm a side sleeper, too.... After my operation, it was literally weeks before I could lie on my side, because I had a hip-to-hip incision (which of course isn't the norm). For that period, I actually slept sitting up with pillows and cushions all around me. I put my feet up on a coffee table (so I was sort of in the position you'd be in a recliner) and it was OK. My problem was that I had a very difficult time sitting or standing after lying down for a period of time, and oooh, the pain!

Once I could lie down, though -- I found a body pillow to be a lifesaver. I still use one sometimes. Hope this helps.

What to take......

I remember making sure I had everything I needed.......the only 2 things I cared about were the lipbalm and minty gum or mouthwash. The liquid diet of fake jello and gingerale left an awful taste in my mouth that I couldn't get rid of.

i loved my remote control bed - I am a side sleeper too but was more comfortable in the hospital more upright. After I got home I used towels to support my overhang when on my side. I liked them better than pillows because I could stuff them under to the amount I felt like I wanted, one minute it was almost none, the next it was rolled up, the next... well you get the idea
