Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

The doctors office continues to try and tell me I will be surprised that I will feel like nothing has been done physically. I still find this hard to comprehend. What is your take from the been there done that club.

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

Women can have varying experiences, but some of us really don't have much pain or "physical" feeling. I had a lap assisted vaginal hysterectomy and even with complications I had no pain issues after the second day and no vaginal discomfort ever!

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

I too had an LAVH a month ago and I have to admit, the only vaginal discomfort I felt is when they took my catheter out.

Downstairs I feel fine, bladder isn't fully awake but there's no pain.

Only tend to feel things when I sneeze, and then it's more bizarre than it was painful. It is different for everyone though.

Best wishes for yours. xx

I had DvH/RALH with my uterus removed vaginally. So far it feels the same. Like Fuzzpuss I was very uncomfortable when they took my cath out. I had ice packs the first 24 hrs and so far so good. Best of luck to you.

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

Did your cath have one of those balloons on the end? Mine did, they pop it before they remove the cath and that was the worst part. Some places are just not meant to pop.

So far, it's the baths I miss. If you're having it done vaginally then you'll have an internal wound. No water gets in until it's healed. Coughing might feel a little strange too as everything will push down while you do it. xx

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

I'm 4 days post op and the pain is not bad at all! I do have discomfort down there and at least for me I can tell I have "extra space" but really not too bad. I think the hardest part is taking it easy and getting use to the lack of energy. Best of luck to you and I hope it goes great for you!

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

All indwelling catheters have a balloon to hold them in place. the ballon is filled with sterile saline. I had one as well. I have never heard of them getting "popped"??? To deflate the little balloon a syringe is attached to the outside of the cath on a side port and withdraw the saline and the balloon deflates.

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

That's what they did for mine and there was a distinct 'pop' sensation. Brought a tear to my eye.

It's weird 'cause my mom had one years ago and hers didn't have the balloon thing on the end.

The lack of energy is a pain in the butt. Even when you think you feel fine, after doing a few minutes of everything you feel wiped out again.

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

I'm 5 days post TVH with ovaries gone too. I know I've had surgery but I certainly don't have pain. Since the op I've only taken iboprufen and panadol. I had a morphine shot the first night but that was for the referred pain in my shoulder from the gas they pumped into my abdomen not for op pain. I went home from hospital within 24hrs. A surgeon friend said to take the panadol regularly even if I feel like I don't need it, I've followed his advice.

Re: Question for those who have had a vaginal hyster...

I woke up in recovery with menstrual cramp type pain and when that went away with a shot of demerol in my IV, I was one of those who didn't feel like I had just had surgery. The only thing that really reminded me of having surgery was just being tired from the anesthesia.

Remember that everyone is different and has a different experience. I hope you have a smooth surgery and recovery!
