Spotting, pain, blotting, after intimacy?

I don't know what is wrong. I am 9 and a half weeks post-op I returned to work last Monday after my vaginal hysterectomy and full repair. Thursday night was the first time we were intimate after surgery. I bleed after surgery and have been spotting since. I am also extremely bloated constipated and in a lot of pain. It burns to urinate too. Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have called the Dr. I was told the spotting should stop within 24 hours... I'm still spotting. I am feeling terrible.

Re: Spotting, pain, blotting, after intimacy?

Hi there! The first time being intimate can cause spotting. Did you talk to your doc about the burning when urinating? If not, this is something you should talk to your doc about especially if it continues. It almost sounds like it could be a urinary tract infection.

For the constipation, are you still walking, having fiber (apples, oatmeal, whole grain breads, bran cereals, etc.), and drinking plenty of water? If not, you should still continue this. Having prunes or warmed prune juice will help. Consider adding foods with magnesium - nuts, leafy greens and dark chocolate are some. Also consider adding yogurt or a probiotic capsule. This will get good bacteria back into your digestive system. To incorporate yogurt, I have it in a smoothie with spinach, frozen blueberries or cherries, almond milk, 1/2 banana, chia seeds, sometimes flax seeds, walnuts, and sometimes protein powder. It has fiber and magnesium in addition to the yogurt. Once you get the constipation under control, this could help with the bloating. I think I was finally somewhat consistent within the 2-3 month mark. I do find when I do not drink enough water on weekends, I do get constipated.

If the pain persists and an ibuprofen does not touch it, it doesn't hurt to give your doc's office a call, so they can ask questions to figure out if you need to go in. In any case, for the burning when urinating, this warrants a call to the doc's office. If it is a UTI, they can give you an antibiotic to help clear it.

Hang in there!

Thank you so much. Going back to work has thrown off my regularity. I am concerned that I might have an infection. The pain and discomfort are getting worse and I am running a fever.

Does your doc's office have an after hours number that you could call to get some guidance? I would be concerned with the fever and the pain that is not touched by aspirin or ibuprofen. It might be worth a visit to urgent care if you can't get in touch with your doc.

Re: Spotting, pain, blotting, after intimacy?

I just called. If my fever goes above 101 I need to go to the hospital. He wants to see me Monday morning. I wasn't thinking it was too big of a deal but apparently it could be! I am so grateful for my HysterSisters! Thank you so much for your advice.
