How long before first BM post surgery?

It seems so funny; the morning of my surgery I was on here asking when I would stop going, and now I'm asking when I will start again!

Finally stopped going about 1/2 hour before the surgery. That was a total pain to keep getting up to go while in pre-op. I started taking the go-lytely at 6:30 the previous evening!

Anyway, my surgery was Tuesday. It's Sunday evening and I still haven't gone. I did take 2 tablespoons of MOM this morning, so I hope that works. I'm a little worried about going for the first time...

How long did it take everyone else to start "moving" again?

I had my first on day 3 or 4. I am very glad that I started taking stool softeners as soon as I got home the day after surgery. It made things "pass" much easier. I am not quite 3 weeks post op and I still take the occasional stool softener. Much better than sitting there forever trying. Hope this is helpful. You can get stool softeners in the grocery store. They are over the counter. No perscription needed.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and it wasn't until the following Friday..3 days that I had a BM....takes time for bowls to wake up and get moving.

I agree that stool softeners are the way to go. I also used the prunes, oatmeal and All-Bran breakfast recipe that's on the week 1 checkpoints page (only I just ate the oatmeal and All-Bran together and had the prunes at a different time of the day). I found that adding that fiber to my diet, in addition to eating lots of fruits and veggies and not a lot of refined stuff kept my bowels moving pretty well (with the help of the stool softener).

The brand of stool softener that I used was DocQlace, which someone on her recommended, and it was very good.

Thanks for the info, everyone. I think I'm definitely past due. I'm going to see my gynecologist in 2 hours, and will bring up the matter for sure.

I've been trying to eat better, and haven't had any fast food or sweets since the Saturday before the surgery. Also, since the surgery I just haven't been as hungry.

In the hospital, my husband brought me brownies and I couldn't eat them! When I looked at them my little voice said "don't eat them, they're too rich". I still feel that way when I look at or think of certain foods. My body is helping me avoid (at least for now) things I shouldn't eat. I hope this lasts forever!!!

I had my first BM 3 days after surgery, and had been taking stool softeners twice a day since the day after surgery. I needed the stool softeners for another 2 weeks or so to keep things moving.

Hang in there! It was 5 days for me. I strongly suggest Fiber One muffins/ granola bars as well as lots of fruit. I also stayed on stool softeners for at least 3 weeks. Good luck!
