Re: Driving after a TAH???

It depends on the doctor. My doctor wanted to stay out of cars because he had had a patient get into an accident after surgery and it was quite the mess to fix. Generally, as long as you are off the narcotics, you can turn to see behind you and you can slam on the brakes, the doctors will give you the okay. Personally, I didn't drive until 4 weeks post-op.

There is one more thing you need to know. If you don't have the okay from your doctor and you drive and get into an accident, your insurance might not cover you. The best thing is to check with your doctor.

Re: Driving after a TAH???

I had DVHT and my doctor said I could drive at 2 weeks. I am 5 1/2 weeks post op now and still have not driven. I can hardly stand to be even a passenger. It's uncomfortable and there is no way I would feel safe behind the wheel yet.

Re: Driving after a TAH???

I had TAH 2-May. Doc said absolutely no driving for 2 weeks. Today is my first day alone. Basically trapped in my house until Thurs. Already stir-crazy.

Re: Driving after a TAH???

It's been 4 weeks for me. I was instructed, no driving until I see the doctor--which is 2 more days. But I can't stand to even sit in a car as a passenger (back seat is better, where I can sit sideways and put my feet up). I don't want to get behind the wheel!

Re: Driving after a TAH???

Each doctor is different.

Mine told me 3 weeks. I was fine with that because I really didn't feel up to driving anyway. I went to my first post op appointment at the 2 week mark and had to drive myself. They called and asked me to come in early because my doc's baby was sick. My husband couldn't get off of work that morning since he had rescheduled his meetings for that morning because I was originally scheduled for that afternoon, so off I went. It was quite uncomfortable. I used a small pillow between my belly and the seat belt for about 4 weeks.
