Re: Best Wishes to our July 23 Princesses

I am sending you and best wishes for an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery as you head off to the hospital.

I will be joining you in the Post Op Forum in the weekly Recovery Progress thread for members having surgery between July 20-26. I will be there to offer support and encouragement on your recovery journey. Look for it at the top of the Post-Op Forum after your surgery.

A few things I found very useful for my initial recovery:
  • Stool softener
  • Gas X
  • Chewing gum (helps with gas)
  • Peppermint tea
  • Ginger Ale
  • Moist wipes rather than toilet tissue
  • Heating pad
  • Small pillow (to hold against tummy when coughing or sneezing, also protects against “pounces” from small animals!) and also a Body pillow
  • Chapstick
  • Notepad and pen (for keeping track of medications)

Here are a couple of links you may find helpful:
In order for us to provide you with best support, it is very helpful if you fill in your surgery date, type, and whether you are planning to remove your ovaries. Here is the link to your Member Survey.

Deep breaths, you can do this! The nerves can be really overwhelming. Try to keep busy, clean the house, cook and freeze meals, and get outside and enjoy your family. Take quiet time for yourself, enjoy a bath and stock up on movies and books for your recovery.

Remember rule #1 is to
"Pamper the Princess"!

Re: Best Wishes to our July 23 Princesses

Thank you all so much. The 23rd is my date. Trying to keep busy and not freak out. Not worried so much about the hysterectomy, more so the results of pathology and the unknown of whether I need further treatment. Scared.

Waiting for pathology is very difficult. Has your doctor told you when you may expect to get the pathology results? It helps to have a timeframe. I received mine at my 6 week post op appointment, so it can take a while for some of us.

Sweetie, we are here for you!

Think calming thoughts, go for a walk, take a bath, listen to music or read. Do whatever is relaxing and soothing for you. Ask your family for extra hugs, and share how you feel. You may wish to journal your hysterectomy journey - sometimes it helps to get the thoughts down on paper.

6 weeks? Wow, that's a long time! You are a trooper! My gyn onc said he should be able to tell me on my follow up appt (31st).

Thank you for your kindness. This is an amazing group.

Re: Best Wishes to our July 23 Princesses

Although I had pre-cancer, I wasn't terribly concerned about my pathology report. My results were probably in sooner, but I didn't call to ask and with my GYN no news is good news! I'm glad you don't need to wait long for your's.

Before you know it you'll be safely on the Other Side!
